Presents Under The Tree: Class of 2020
One of the best known traditions during the holiday season is presents under the tree. Michigan’s class of 2020 has certainly given fans and coaches in the state a lot of gifts to enjoy watching for years to come.
NEWCOMER: Griffin Yaklich (G, Saline)
It’s certainly a treat to watch this silky smoooth guard find a lane and get the ball to the rim. He has a knack for either finishing or getting to the free throw line.
MOST IMPROVED: Max Perez (PG, Hudsonville)
Who doesn’t want to watch a sophomore point guard without a weakness? This kid is willing to battle on the court and will not get outworked. He has a very high basketball IQ.
UNDERRATED: Zach Maynard (G, Rochester Adams)
This young man will do whatever he’s asked to do to win. He can shoot from deep, see the court, and play defense. He had AAU coaches at the end of the summer talking about the fact that he is a college basketball player.
SHOWTIME: Steve Pearson (SG, Detroit Northwestern)
If you haven’t see him play, you need to. There may not be a better pure athlete in his class nationwide. He plays above the rim and is the definition of excitement.
HUSTLE: Connor Bush (SF, Belleville)
Who doesn’t like to see a kid give it everything he has on the court? This kid will not tire. He will battle for a rebound and be the first man back on the defensive end.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Carlos Johnson (SF, Benton Harbor)
This is a young man that can win in so many different ways. He can fill up every statistical category in one game. A double-double is an every game occurrence for Johnson.
STAR ON THE RISE: Noah Pruitt (PG, Okemos)
Pruitt is having a great start to the season. He’s becoming a team leader, finding teammates, and putting points on the board. His potential is really showing and he will be a household name in Michigan high school basketball.
