Palmetto State : Pepsi Carolina Classic Day 2 Top Performers
Prep Hoops SC takes a look at the top performers from Day 2 of the Pepsi Carolina Classic at West Florence HS.
Jalen Coit (2020) – Cheraw HS (pictured on front)
Coit can just really fill it up when given the chance. Coit averaged over 24 ppg last season as a freshman for the Braves. Coit a left-handed finished with 27 points today in a lopsided win over Timmonsville. Coit is ranked #3 in The Prep Hoops Palmetto State Top 2020 Class.
Kyron Gray (2018) – Hartsville HS
Gray has been a resurgence here for the Red Foxes to start the season. Gray 6’7 finishes around the cup and has a nice touch facing up on the floor. Gray doesn’t leave the floor for Hartsville because they rarely sub in a game. Gray played with Team South Carolina AAU this past summer. Gray runs the floor well and has the ability to get a double-double every night.
Kashawn Rowell (2018) – Marion HS
Rowell was a pleasant surprise in the paint today for the Swamp Foxes. Rowell 6’4 (255) finished around the cup and just likes playing on contact. Rowell a left-handed undersized post also plays football for the Swamp Foxes. Rowell with 0.2 seconds on the clock and the game tied nailed 2 free throws for the win this evening. Rowell finished with 22 points for the Swamp Foxes
Jalian Smith (2018) – Darlington HS
Smith finished the night with 16 points in a victory over previously unbeaten Trinity Byrnes. Smith is a rim runner on the floor and excels in the transition game. Smith has limited perimeter skills but plays with a good motor when dialed into the game. Smith scored 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in a opening night victory over Crestwood.
Smith will need to entertain junior college options according to Falcons Head Coach Ken Howle.
Omarion Byrd (2020) – North Augusta HS
Byrd is just so dam consistent on the floor and behind the arch. Byrd connected on 20 points in a victory over West Florence. Byrd a 3 point specialist just makes shots when on the floor.
