Palmetto State : Hawk Invitational
The Hawk Invitational is played at Blackville-Hilda HS down in Barnwell County. The event features 8 boys and 11 girls teams. I have personally taken in this event the past few seasons and have walked away finding a few players off the beaten path which is Highway 78 in Western South Carolina.
Here is the schedule for the boys tourney starting this Thursday all games will be played at Blackville-Hilda HS located in Blackville.
Thursday December 28, 2017
12:45 P.M. Williston-Elko HS vs Wagner Salley HS
Desmond Murray and KeShawn Toney will look to lead the Blue Devils. Toney had a big season on the gridiron. Toney had 35 receptions-600 yards 4 touchdowns to go along with 39 tackles and 4 sacks. Murray and Toney are both juniors for 1st year Head Coach Mark Crossland.
3:15 P.M. Barnwell HS vs Bamberg-Ehrhardt HS
The War Horses will look for leadership from Pete Elmore and Russell Branch. Elmore 6’4 guided the War Horses on the football field the past 3 seasons as a quarterback.
5:45 P.M. Denmark-Olar HS vs Ridge Spring-Monetta HS
The young Vikings rely on Harold Johnson and Malik Palmer on the hardwood. This duo are currently just sophomores and both played AAU this summer with the Central Carolina Force.
Tyson Bettis led the Trojans to a good run in the State Football Playoffs as quarterback. Melvin Alewine plays in the post the for the Trojans.
8:15 P.M. Branchville HS vs Blackville-Hilda HS
The host Hawks are led by freshman Adonis Davis. Davis has been a fixture here since the 7th grade for the Hawks. Davis will carry the Hawks as much as possible. Look out for Ja’Quavion James to provide some offensive punch for the Hawks.
Few years back in this event I first saw a guard name Randall Buxton play for Barnwell. Buxton that day went off for 42 points and just scored the ball at will. Prep Hoops is source for all the latest basketball coverage in the Palmetto State all year long.
