Palmetto State : CNHY Showcase
Prep Hoops took in the CHHY Showcase inaugural event at Cardinal Newman School in Columbia, SC on Saturday. The event featured 4 boys team from the Palmetto State. Lets take a look at the games.
York Prep played the opener vs the Hammond Skyhawks. The Patriots located out of York in the Upstate won a nail biter 65-62. Vince Cole led the Patriots to victory with 17 points, Jaron Williams 13 points, DJ Burns (2019) 11 points and Deuce Dean (2019) 8 points. Williams has signed with Longwood University for next season. The Patriots move to 7-4 on the season.
The scrappy Skyhawks were led in Isaiah Washington with 14 points while connecting on 4 three pointers in the contest. Trent Green and Jordan Burch (2020) both added 11 points while Lucas Prickett (2018) finished the night with 10 points.
The game was 35-24 at halftime with the Patriots leading. The Skyhawks cut the lead to 10 points at 56-46 with 3:26 left in the game. Washington connected on three straight 3 pointers and made it a 58-54 game with 1:10 left to play.
The Patriots would hold onto beat the Skyhawks with some Cole free throws late in the game.
The nightcap featured the host Cardinals vs Gray Collegiate. This game was filled with plenty of action, hostile fans, and dunks. Great basketball atmosphere and tune up heading into the holiday season. Gray Collegiate prevailed 87-78. Cardinal Newman led at the halftime break 43-35.
The War Eagles coached by Dion Bethea have plenty of star power in Juwan Gary, Tommy Bruner, Khalil Robinson, Jalil Robinson, Mike Marsh and now Dallaz Corbitt added to the mix. Gary had several dunks in transition and alley-oops to finish the night with 31 points (21 points coming in the 2nd half). Bruner and Marsh both added 17 points for the War Eagles.
The Cardinals short on size but not in heart stayed in the game until the last few minutes when Gray Collegiate pulled away. Chico Carter Jr. (2019) was on his game all night for the Cardinals. Carter Jr. finished with 22 points, Brandon Pirie (2018) and Joshua Beadle (2021) both scored 17 points.
Pirie has signed to play at Francis Marion University (SC) (NCAA D2) next fall.
