Palmetto State : 3rd Annual Savannah River Shootout
Prep Hoops took in the action across the state in North Augusta for the 3rd Annual Savannah River Shootout. The event features 8 boys and 8 girls teams from South Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia this season. The action started with 2 teams from the Midlands matching up Dutch Fork vs Westwood.
The Westwood Warriors got out in front and never looked back behind the strong play of Russell Jones Jr. Jones Jr. (2019) is extremely quick with the ball in his hands and he’s very touch to stay in front of on the floor. Jones Jr. scored 16 points on the evening.
Tyrrell Huff (2019) and Kendall Wormack (2019) ignited the 17-3 run for the the Warriors in the 3rd quarter. Huff moved into the area this past season after attending Franklin HS in El Paso, TX.
Dutch Fork was without the services of Kerry Eaddy (2018). Recent Shrine Bowler and South Carolina Football Commit Bryce Thompson was playing in his first game for the Silver Foxes. Jalin Hyatt (2020) recently joined the team after having a huge season the gridiron as a wide receiver.Hyatt led the way with 12 points with a few late three pointers in the game.
McCallie (TN) jumped out on South Aiken HS and never looked back today. McCallie is coached by former Chattanooga Head Coach John Shulman. The Thorougbreds lost in the opening round 73-51.
Joshua Drayton (2018) and Cincere Scott (2020) both scored 11 points in the loss. Melvin McKie (2018) chipped in 8 points. Drayton is a blue collar kid at just 5’11 plays with so much energy and effort. Drayton is limited on the perimeter but is not afraid to mix it up in the paint.
Scott likes to play 94 feet and has a high arching shot from the perimeter. Scott for sure doesn’t lack confidence on the floor and generally comes on the floor after being the 6th man.
