Palmetto State : 3rd Annual Savannah River Shootout
The night session featured Thomson (GA) vs Silver Bluff right down the road in Petticoat Junction. This game was a nail biter back and forth all night long and it came down to a unsung hero in Latavian Lawrence.
Lawrence (2020) came off the bench for the Bulldogs finished the night with 20 points on 4 three pointers. Lawrence 6’3 at one time came down the floor and launched a 28 footer nothing but the bottom of the net. The Bulldogs won 59-55.
Keandre Williams scored 9 points, Keadrian Burton (2018) was active on the glass all night for the Bulldogs. Burton not overally skilled played like a junkyard dog on the floor. Burton scored 8 points along with Jadakiss Wright, and Jimmie Foreman.
The nightcap featured the host North Augusta Yellow Jackets vs Hunter-Kinard-Tyler. The Yellow Jackets stuggled early on with just a 13-12 lead with 24.9 seconds left in the first quarter. The Yellow Jackets then looked to open it up with a 43-30 halftime break. The Yellow Jackets puled away big in the 2nd half and won 98-67.
H-K-T a small Class A school in Orangeburg County just didn’t have the man power to keep up with the Yellow Jackets. The Trojans were led in scoring by Camry James (2018) with 18 points, Marlow Gilmore (2019) 16 points and I’rek Hartwell (2020) added 14 points while hitting 3 three pointers.
The Yellow Jackets had balance scoring with Tez Collins leading the way with 21 points. Collins is receiving multiple interest from NCAA D2 Schools according to Head Coach Tony Harrell. Coker College (was in attendance), Benedict, Claflin (SC) and Lenoir Rhyne (NC) all have shown interest in Collins.
RJ Felton (2021) added 19 points, Bryson Mozone (2018) 17 points and Omarion Byrd (2020) 12 points. Dejuan Bell the starting point guard signed earlier in the day with Furman for football next season. Bell scored just 4 points in the lopsided win.
