Palmetto State : 14th Annual Shootout By the Sea
Prep Hoops took in the Day 1 action from the 14th Annual Shootout By the Sea in North Myrtle Beach. Prep Hoops stayed here for the first 3 games of the day. The event features 8 boys and 8 girls teams.
Ridge View vs St James got the action started today in the Shootout By the Sea. This game was close early when Jordan Furlough and Payton Lewis both connected on 3 pointers right before the halftime break. Ridge View led 25-18 at halftime.
The Blazers turned it up a noth in the 2nd half and never looked back. The Blazers would go onto defeat the Sharks 68-37. The Blazers were led in scoring by guard Walyn Napper (2019) with 13 points. Crosby Harris-James (2019) added 12 points and Javon Anderson chipped in 8 points. Malcolm Wilson didn’t score much but was a big factor in the paint.
The 2nd game featured two schools from the Upstate in Boiling Springs vs Wren. Wren located in Piedmont was led by freshman sensation Bryce McGowens (2021). McGowens couldn’t help the Hurricanes get past the Bulldogs but he did leave a lasting impression.
Boiling Springs defeated Wren HS 69-52. The Bulldogs were led in scoring by sharp shooting Isaiah Prysock (2018) with 16 points. Zach Baldinelli (2019) scored 15 points off the bench and connected on 3 three pointers while Seth Hewitt (2018) added 13 points. Run-Jump-Athlete Kamal Desor (2019) scored 9 points in the win.
McGowens was the hot hand for the Hurricanes with 17 points. McGowens showed a lot of poise on the floor and seems to be a very confident and precise shooter from behind the arch. McGowens will be a name to hear from in the years to follow from the Upstate.
Summerville beat a undermanned Hoggard HS (Wilmington, NC) in the 3rd game of the day 45-31. The Green Wave were in led by ultra athletic forward Shaquan Davis (2018) with 24 points. Davis and the Green Wave will play Ridge View today in the semifinals.
Prep Hoops will adventure down to Carolina Forest HS for the final day of action at the Panther Classic on Friday.
