North Orange County Championships: Top Performers
LA HABRA, CA— Just when you think you have Southern California wired in terms of knowing all the prospects, there is always a player or two that pop up on the radar—and that is the case with burly 4-man Tim Adetukasi. The 6-foot-6 junior was one of many breakthrough performers at the North Orange County Championships. Josh Christopher, on the other hand, is nationally rated recruit and he exhibited that talent at this event in dramatic fashion.
Francisco’s Finest: Top Standouts
Christopher dominated all foes at both ends of the floor at the North OC ChampionshipsJosh Christopher (Mayfair)
2020, SG, 6-foot-5, 195 pounds
Joel’s Take: Christopher has played for the camera a bit much in his young career. However, this season he has taking on a new mentality. In the semis and finals at the North Orange County tourney he exhibited a killer instinct at both ends of the floor. He is an exceptional scorer at all three levels, but he also took charges and had active hands in the passing lanes. His improvement at both ends have been evident….stay hungry and focused.
Justin Williams (Anaheim Canyon)
2020, 6-foot-3, 165 pounds
Joel’s Take: Caught our eye at one of the Prephoops showcase camps at Fountain Valley and looked even better here. Great size, good quickness and initial burst, and his handle is slick and tight. He can knock in jump shots at the elbow (pull-up) or drop in a 3-pointer. He needs to improve his ability to finish at the rim through contact, but he’s a quality prospect with a winner’s mentality.
Isaiah Johnson (Crean Lutheran)
2020, PF, 6-foot-6, 215 pounds
Joel’s Take: Johnson is slowly, but assuredly, molding into a quality player. He is a jack-of-all-trades type of 4-man who can attack off the dribble and mash on opponents and he’s a gifted passer. He has a good motor, solid hands, and he shows good instincts for this game. It will be interesting to see his evolution as a player in the coming seasons.
Dawson Baker (Capistrano Valley)
2018, SG, 6-foot-3, 185 pounds
Joel’s Take: Arguably the most polished player in the event was Baker. The gifted combo-guard who plays with a fearless passion for the game was definitely the catalyst for his team. It’s early, but if there was a MVP for Orange County he would be on a short list. When he is knocking in deep jump shots, his game goes to another level. He has a potent burst off the dribble, is a slick finisher in the paint, and his vision is impeccable. #Winner
Jordan Taylor (Saddleback Valley Christian)
2018, C, 6-foot-10, 235 pounds
Joel’s Take; Taylor has some sneaky toughness to him as he was a load in the middle in his team’s semi-final tilt versus Capistrano Valley. He has soft hands, strong frame, long arms, and some improved post skills. He dropped in a few jump hooks, a couple jump shots from the elbow, and he mashed on a few defenders as well.
