ARLINGTON, VA — The 3rd Annual Morgan Wootten Tip Off returned to Bishop O’Connell, and we were able to catch the final three games on Saturday night. Here is our full scouting report from our time in the gym.
Becht is going to make open shots if you leave him, so having him on the floor allows you to play 4-on-4 or risk the other team getting burned. He’s also a scrappy guy who will get on the floor, take a charge or stick his nose in their when need be.
Bey is a very talented scorer who has grown almost ten inches since his freshman year. Now at 6’7, the skilled wing is effective with his back to the basket or facing up. Bey rebounds well, and can defend multiple positions.
One of the most underrated and overlooked aspects about Bynum’s game is probably his defense. Despite being relatively undersized, Bynum is a very good rebounder and a pesky on ball defender with very good awareness off the ball. Offensively, Bynum controls the pace and dictates tempo for his team. He can score it well from all three levels, and distributes the ball at a very high level.
Athletic scoring guard. Can play on the ball at times. Can defend both guard spots. Super competitive, and explosive. Scores it from all three levels, and doesn’t mind contact at the rim. Decision making needs improvement in order to reach full potential.
Has fantastic feel offensively, always seeming to be a few plays ahead of others and seeing the floor in ways other guards don’t. He can take over and score when needed with an array of shots in the midrange and great body control, and he also sits down and defends the ball well. He has to become a more consistent & confident jump shooter, but his intangibles and winning ways are things you just can’t teach.
Dead eye three-point shooter. One of the most prolific scorers in his class nationally. Puts the ball in the basket from all three levels. Knocks down threes from the catch, and off the dribble. Much improved in pnr scenarios, but still needs to see the floor a bit better. Underrated defensively.
Great hands. Always available for dumpoffs. Runs the floor. Soft touch. High motor rebounder, especially on the offensive end. Can hit the mid range. Converts free throws at a high rate.
Competitive scorer. Very crafty and skilled. Can mix it up from all three levels. Extremely tough and resilient. A winner, an extremely hard worker, and a vocal leader.
Shooter with good size. Can mix it up and score around the basket. High motor and high IQ player. Will sacrifice his body.
Offurum is a very well built 6’6, 230 pound wing with a tremendous skill set. He is very athletic, and can score it well from all three levels.
Underrated defender, and high IQ guard who can play on or off the ball. Can shoot the 3, but also has a nice middle game. Very skilled with the ball, and extremely tough. A winner.
Lefty forward with a high motor. Good size and touch at 6’7. Can make the 15 footer. Has good footwork, and strong fundamentals.
Dead eye three point shooter. Much improved ball handler. Can play on and off the ball. Understands the game. Defends very well. Sacrifices body. Makes plays for others. Can run the pick and roll. Without question of the most improved players we’ve seen in the last 12 months.
Elite perimeter defender. Has good length, and protects the rim adequately. Still has room for growth offensively.
Knock down three point shooter. Underrated, and exceptional playmaker with the ball. Smart defender on and off the ball. A winner. Extremely competitive. Can score in bunches. Deceptively strong, but still needs to add more strength.
Long limbed, athletic left-handed guard that finishes above the rim. Very high basketball IQ. Does well in weak side rotations defensively.
Quick and crafty lead guard. Scores it well from various angles around the basket. Older sister is a scholar athlete on the Notre Dame track team. Has good genes. Will fill out over time.
Nimble forward with solid fundamentals. Has a nice touch around the basket. Seeks and absorbs contact at the rim. Well built.
Smooth and crafty guard with a quick first step. Good pull up shooter. Can finish in traffic, and likes to create for others. Demonstrates a great understanding of the game.
Scoring guard with high basketball IQ. Fills lanes well in transition off the ball; always looks to push off defensive rebounds.
High level athlete that can score in bunches. Rebounds well out of his area. Displays toughness. Scores from uncommon angles, and plays above the rim.
Long wing that defends multiple positions, and plays with a high motor. Can knock down shots from the perimeter off the catch, and is becoming a more explosive athlete as he continues to grow into his body.
High motor forward. Plays bigger than listed height. Very bouncy. Reportedly has a 38 inch vert. Shoots it very well from the perimeter. Mixes it up and hits shots from the middle areas as well as around he basket. Still filling out. Could still be growing.
Crafty point guard with a thin frame, but plays very strong. Defends the ball well. Communicates with others. Makes shots from all over the floor, but gets others involved.
Athletic and versatile wing with a great feel for the game. Very long and agile. Defends multiple positions on the perimeter, but also rebounds well from his position. Still growing and filling out.
Explosive guard that can make shots from the perimeter. Defends multiple positions. Can attack off the dribble, and creates for others.
High energy forward with good athleticism and versatility. Plays with a ton of emotion. Has nice touch, and soft hands. Protects the rim. Rebounds.
Big strong guard that plays hard at all times. Decent rebounder out of his area. Left handed. Can hit a three if left open. Should work on right hand a bit more, but can use it. Wants to be great, and knows what it takes.
