Marquee Matchups: Week 5 Recap
Wayne became the top dog in Dayton, Christian Guess continued his early-season case for Mr. Basketball, and Fort Loramie got its signature win during week five in Ohio. While many of the top teams played in holiday showcases out of state, here are the results of the best in-state games from the past seven days.
Dec. 27: Leavittsburg Labrae (81) at Bristol (58)
Following a 5-0 start to the season, Bristol has lost its second straight game to LaBrae, who advanced to 7-0. Benton Tennant and Tyler Stephens both scored over 20 points for LaBrae, according to WKBN.
Dec. 27: Shaker Heights (99) vs. Cleveland Heights (84)
Christian Guess scored 35 and Dale Bonner 26 in Shaker Heights’ win over Cleveland Heights in the premier Wednesday game at the NEO Christmas Classic. Tyreke Smith and Grayson Green scored 22 a piece for the Tigers, per Cleveland.com.
Dec. 28: St. Vincent-St. Mary (76) at Garfield Heights (85)
It took overtime, but Garfield Heights protected homecourt and finished December with a perfect record. In the matchup of talented freshman guards, Seth Wilson scored 23 points while Meechie Johnson put up 13, per Cleveland.com.
Dec. 29: Dayton Wayne (90) at Trotwood-Madison (87)
The top Division I team in Dayton took down Dayton’s best Division II team in double overtime behind 19 points and 20 rebounds from L’Christian “Blue” Smith. Youngstown State signee Darius Quisenberry went for 23 points, eight assists, and six rebounds also.
Dec. 30: Fort Loramie (55) at Bethel (47)
Fort Loramie went on the road for a statement win against Bethel. The senior trio of Tyler Siegel, Evan Berning, and Dillon Braun impressed in the victory.
Dec. 30: The Wellington School (49) at Westerville North (47)
After a 1-3 start, Wellington is back on track with four straight wins, including this one against a legitimate Division I opponent. Dallas Patrick, Noah Berry, and Bob Faller scored in double-digits for the Jaguars, per 270 Hoops.
Dec. 31: St. Ignatius at St. Vincent-St. Mary
