The Lafayette Generals won their third straight game and moved to 7-2 on the season after defeating Louisville Doss in the Peoples Exchange Bank Holiday Invitational championship game yesterday at Henry Clay High School.
Lafayette defeated West Creek (TN) and Louisville Male to advance to the championship game. Louisville Doss defeated Meade County and narrowly escaped Henry Clay 70-67 to advance.
The Generals started out red hot, getting what they wanted at the rim and causing fits to the Dragons ability to advance the ball, applying a press from the get-go. Lafayette outscored Doss 13 to 4 in the first quarter and would go into halftime up 25-13. Lafayette’s sophomore big man Ray Surratt and senior guard Cameron King went into the half as the games leading scorers.
The Dragons would start out the second half as the aggressor, applying their own press against the Generals. Doss would find themselves creating turnovers, and also may have found themselves wishing they, too, had pressed the whole game. Doss outscored Lafayette in the 4th quarter 14 to 10 and would find themselves in a number of situations to tie the game. But it was not enough, as missed lay-ups and fouls would lead to Lafayette closing out the game.
Surratt and King would lead the Generals, scoring 10 and 13 respectively. Doss was led by a host of players who contributed to it’s just short comeback. For Lafayette, Ray Surratt, Cameron King, and senior Eric Powell were named to the all-tournament team. Doss’ Stephon Franklin and Taye Calloway were also named to the all-tournament team.
