Jones vs Oak Ridge: Standouts
It was quite the atmosphere during night one of the breast cancer awareness tournament held at Oak Ridge high school. The main event of the evening saw Oak Ridge play host to their in city rivals Jones High. Oak Ridge controlled the game from the first play of the game, which was a designed alley oop to highly touted recruit Emmitt Williams, who was making his Pioneer debut. The game saw Jones keep it close with gutty play by their guard and wing players. Jones who was down by as many as 18 in the first half made it a 7 point game during a crucial point in the third quarter. Oak Ridge used the size of Williams and quick guard play to their advantage to close out a 64-39 victory.
Emmitt Williams – Oak Ridge: The senior who was making his season debut did not disappoint tonight, 22 points in which all but a few came on powerful dunks that had the crowd electric from tip off. Emmitt dominated down low by either blocking or altering the opponents shot attempts, leading to Oak Ridge fastbreaks. Emmitt is a future NBA lottery pick in the making.
Kaleb Coleman – Oak Ridge: Coleman, a 6’6 sharpshooter and polished post player did not have his shot falling tonight but that did not stop him from impacting the game. A big body to pair with Williams, who is also a shot blocker creates nightmares for opponents. Coleman rebounded at a high level and protected the paint just the same.
Robin Perry – Oak Ridge: The senior sharpshooter had a off scoring night for his standards, finishing with 11 points. Perry has started the season averaging over 25 points per game but it was his resolve which landed him on this list tonight. The team’s heart and soul, Perry made smart plays at the right time, clutch shots to stop Jones runs or an alley oop pass from one end of the court to the other to Williams before the first half’s buzzer to really steal all momentum for his team. Perry is having a huge start to his senior campaign and tonight was no different.
