John Wall Invitational First Round Match-Ups
Raleigh, North Carolina will be home to one of the top tournaments in the country with The John Wall Holiday Invitational beginning this upcoming week. Here is a look at some of the first-round matchups.
Duke commit Joey BakerKinston HS vs Trinity Christian School-One of the perennial powers in NCHSAA basketball, Kinston will take on one the perennial powers in the NCISAA in Trinity Christian. Kinston is led this season by 2019 Damian Dunn, senior point guard Taji Moore, a strong, skilled guard and freshman Dontrez Styles who is considered to be one of the next big recruits out of Kinston. Trinity Christian is led by the big 3 of Joey Baker (Duke recruit), Greg Gantt (top 100 2019, and Au’Diese Toney (top 2019 recruit) in what should be a great start to The John Wall Invitational for tip off.
Garner High School vs Christ School-This one is sure to bring some college coaches and national media to the match-up. Garner High School is a one-loss team at 7-1. The only loss coming to another top 4-A team, Leesville Road High School. Garner is led by 6-foot-3 senior guard Marque Maultby, 6-6 senior forward Kenyon Burt, and 6-foot-4 senior forward Demetric Horton. Christ School is led by one of the top juniors in the country, Jalen Lecque a high-flying 6-foot-4 point guard who is a YouTube sensation. He has offers from Florida, Kansas, Clemson, South Carolina, Miami, Texas, Louisville and others. 6-foot-10 point forward Brandon Stone is another top prospect on the Greenies roster. Stone has offers from St. Joe’s, Pittsburgh, South Carolina among others. 6-foot-3 sophomore Norance Berry has offers from Chattanooga, East Tennessee State and Tennessee. 6-foot-10 big man Justice Ajogbor has offers from Auburn, UConn, Mississippi State, Davidson, Tennessee and interest from Kentucky. The sophomore should see his stock rise and rise over the next few months into spring/summer travel basketball.
Rocky River High School vs Greenfield School-PrepHoopNC’s top 2020 guard, Jaden Springer will lead Rocky River in this match-up against University of North Carolina bound guard Coby White and Georgia Southern recruit Elijah McCadden. Rocky River also has touted sophomore Darlinstone Dubar, a skilled guard who can also stuff the stat sheet.
