Iowa’s Player of the Week Poll (3)
Brady Happel
5’11 G, Dunkerton, 2018
He started to bloom last season as a sophomore when heaveragd 10.5 per game for the Raiders, but he’s a full-on star this season. A do-it-all guard, Happel helped still-undefeated Dunkerton to three wins last week while averaging 16 points, 6 rebounds, 8.3 assists, 2.7 steals and 1.7 blocks per game.
Joe Wieskamp
6’6 G/F, Muscatine, 2018
The future Iowa Hawkeyes wing could probably be a POTW candidate every week, but this past one was especially dynamic for him. In a win win over Davenport North last Tuesday, Wieskamp was unfairly good, going for 44 points and 25 rebounds — Wow. He followed that up with a 42 point, 11 rebound effort against Cedar Rapids Prairie on Saturday.
Spencer Hoff
6’2 G, Janesville, 2019
A 6-foot-2 guard, Hoff has the Wildcats out to a 5-2 start with his stellar play, and last week he was particularly good. Hoff is a guy who can do a little bit of everything for his team, and in three games last week he averaged 16.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 7.7 assists and 4.3 steals per.
Nick DeJong
6’6 C, Pella, 2019
Lots graduated from last season’s state-qualifying Pella squad, but the Dutch don’t rebuild, they reload. Big-man Nick DeJong had a major impact last season, but is the main-main this season; and he went for 23 points per game on 71 percent shooting, nabeed 14 rebounds per game and blocked 2.5 per for the 5-1 Dutch last week.
Isaac Prewitt
6’2 G, Des Moines Christian, 2018
Des Moines Christian is off to an 8-0 start this season, and in two wins last week their senior leader continued his torrid start to the season. The Lions beat Earlham and ACGC for wins seven and eight last week, and Prewitt averaged 29.5 points on 61 percent shooting and canned nine 3s at a 47 percent clip in the wins.
