Grand Rapids Area 1-2 Punches
Every basketball coach would love to have a 1-2 punch. A 1-2 punch is when two players can make big plays in rapid succession. This allows a team to make a run or to come up big in pressure moments. Earlier we looked at 1-2 punches in the SEC Red. https://prephoops.com/2017/12/sec-red-1-2-punches/
Today we will take a look at three high level 1-2 punches in the Grand Rapids area.
GODWIN HEIGHTS:
Markeese Hastings (2018, 6-7, F) and Lamar Norman (2018, 6-2, SG)
Who wouldn’t want two future Division 1 college basketball players? Hastings is a rapidly improving athlete who’s active on the glass and can play above the rim. Norman is an elite athlete who can defend and score from all three levels.
GRAND RAPIDS CHRISTIAN:
Seth Millner (2018, 6-6, SF) and James Vallar (2018, 6-0, PG)
Millner is active with the ball in his hands and has great footwork. He can attack the rim or pull up from midrange. Even better, he has Vallar at point guard to find him in a position to score. Vallar is a leader at heart and a very talented all around athlete.
GRAND RAPIDS CATHOLIC CENTRAL:
Marcus Bingham (2018, 6-10, PF) and Jacob Polakovich (2018, 6-8, F/C)
There aren’t many front courts in Michigan that would look forward to matching up with these two. Bingham is a Mr. Basketball candidate and a blossoming talent with a huge upside. He’s a long athlete who can score and is a weapon defensively. Pair him with a physical and strong Polakovich and you have an elite 1-2 punch. Polakovich is aggressive in the paint but is also an efficient three point shooter.
