Breakdown: This is an odd week with the first half being more of a traditionally light schedule but beginning on Friday we have the holiday tournaments starting up. So, you have a good mix of games all week long beginning on Monday with Whitko traveling to East Noble. East Noble has been pretty solid this year and has a 5-0 record. Whitko had a three-game losing streak before righting the ship last weekend. However, they have some size in Spencer Sroufe to take on EN’s Ali Ali. Should be a good matchup between a couple rural Fort Wayne area teams.
On Tuesday, you have a really interesting matchup with Frankton and Waphani. Wapahani is off to a great start this season with a bunch of big wins. They get a chance at the #1 team in 2A in Frankton. Frankton just got done beating up on Oak Hill. This will be a game where Frankton can create more distance between itself and the next best teams or Wapahani could prove that they are going to be for real this year.
Wednesday, we have Pendleton Heights taking on Hamilton Southeastern. Pendleton has had a bit of a rough start but Hamilton Southeastern is a team they know well enough. They play each other every year. The problem is HSE is vying as one of the best teams in the state in 4A and this could be a week in which they position themselves to take over #1. A lot on the line for both teams with Heights not wanting to get cast aside this early in the season.
Thursday, we starting getting into the really top flight games as Crispus Attucks goes on the road in the south to take on Bedford North Lawrence. Both teams are off to great starts and this should be a very good matchup from the perimeter. Both teams are guard heavy with not much size at all. Attucks has a bit more speed and athleticism but BNL has playmakers in McCall Ray and Brayton Bailey. Could be a high scoring matchup.
Friday is when we begin our Holiday Tournaments and the Marion Holiday Tournament provides us with one of the best games of the week as Valparaiso takes on Fort Wayne North. Valparaiso is undefeated so far but haven’t been tested too much yet. Fort Wayne North is pretty good as well and has Keion Brooks on their roster. Brandon Newman has really become a good scoring guard in the state but can he do it on a bigger stage against a top-end team?
Saturday we have Evansville Bosse vs. Lawrence North at the Manual Holiday Extravaganza. This is a game that Evansville Bosse has been hoping for, to play a big time team in the Indianapolis area with a lot of eyes watching. They get it but Lawrence North is more athletic, bigger, and deeper. Bosse is tough and their guards are better right now. Will be a fun game to see who is able to impose their style early on.
