Forum: South Bend Riley vs. Pickerington North (OH) Evaluations
We are finishing up some evaluations from last week’s Forum Tip-Off Classic. These are our player breakdowns from the South Bend Riley win over Pickerington North (OH).
Dondre Palmer | 6’5 | SF | 2018 | Pickerington North (OH) | Palmer is a big time athlete with a good frame and plenty of skill. Plays as more of a 2/3 wing and uses his athleticism pretty well. Versatile defender with his size and could play out on the wing or inside using more of his strength and length. He didn’t score the ball well in this game but was really impactful in almost every other area. He will fill a role in college and be an early contributor because of it. He finished with 4 points but 5 rebounds and a block. |
Jerome Hunter | 6’7 | SF | 2018 | Pickerington North (OH) | Hunter is a big time athletic wing with tons of ball handling ability and is a matchup nightmare. He can create on the perimeter while still being a guy that can mix it up inside. At 6’7+, he’s not a guy that a normal wing can handle. His sheer size and skill needs to be matched a bit to be able to really slow him down. He drew a ton of contact because of that inability to match his size. When his jumper was on, he was a guy that could put up points in a hurry. Good ball handler as well, showing he could bring the ball up and then break a defender down in the halfcourt. He finished with 21 points on 6/10 shooting along with 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists. |
Ty Wiley | 5’11 | PG | 2018 | Pickerington North (OH) | Ty is a smaller guard with tons of quickness and a lot of toughness. He was aggressive getting to the rim where he drew a ton of contact, going 9/10 from the line. He set the pace for this team and gave them a speed component that they don’t get with some of their other players. He’s got a capable jumper and was aggressive enough that you could see him picking up big scoring totals consistently. He finished with 17 points on 3/8 shooting. |
Eli McNamara | 6’10 | C | 2018 | Pickerington North (OH) | Eli is a solid stretch forward with really good shooting ability but tons of strength and is more of a true stretch in that respect. Love his range off the catch and energy that he plays with. Really tough when he gets touches in the low post. Needs to get more of them but showed he can be pretty effective when he did. He’s an aggressive player when trying to post and almost always gains leverage down low. He finished with 16 points on 6/13 along with 5 rebounds and 2 assists. |
Jack Sawyer | 6’4 | PF | 2021 | Pickerington North (OH) | Sawyer is a big, really well developed post player. Has a lot of strength on his frame for his age and while he isn’t super athletic, he is pretty mobile and has enough of a post game to be effective now. Stands about 6’5 right now and could still grow a bit. He’s a very good rebounder, always attacking the boards and can track things really well. Not flashy but so effective for his age. He finished with 13 points on 5/5 shooting, 3/3 from the free throw line along with 4 rebounds. |
Jalen Jennings | 5’9 | PG | 2019 | South Bend Riley (IN) | For Jennings, this was a solid game for him. He was good as the floor leader and pace setter, getting his guys going when they needed to. he did provide a little offense, showing an improved jump shot and a little more strength and toughness around the rim. He’s the best passer on the team and did well to get the ball out to the shooters. Was pretty good defensively, using his speed well and really taking advantage of it. He’s not going to be a big offensive player but he’s really rounding out his capabilities as a leader on the floor. He finished with 5 points on 2/4 shooting along with 5 assists and 2 steals. |
Shamar Dillard | 6’5 | SF | 2018 | South Bend Riley (IN) | Dillard had the best game we have seen from him. He was knocking down long distance jumpers, competing on the interior for rebounds and just effecting the game in a ton of ways. He’s never been one for consistency or a ton of offense but this might be a breakout game for him in a lot of ways. This was a performance we were waiting to see. |
Damezi Anderson | 6’6 | SF | 2018 | South Bend Riley (IN) | For the better part of the game, Anderson wasn’t all that involved. However, as we got into the later part, his shooting started to pick up. He finished with 23 points and was doing most of his work from the free throw line. He was attacking more in the paint and drawing some contact. Late in the game, he hit a couple big threes to help send the game into overtime. He’s not nearly as hot and cold and more evened out, producing in every game with big games mixed in. His upside is still very high. With his 23 points he had 9 rebounds and 2 steals. |
Marlon Taylor | 6’5 | SG | 2018 | South Bend Riley (IN) | Taylor had a decent game, really digging into his skillset and showing his versatility. You saw him as a guy that can play any of the wing spots but is probably more polished as a 2/3. He was good from the field on little dumpoffs and plays around the rim. Not really a shooter, Marlon was good getting in the last with backcuts and slashes where he can take advantage of his size. More of a utility guy and capable of filling up a box score when he is in the zone. Finished with 9 points on 3/4 shooting. |
