Forum: Culver Academies vs. Lawrence North Evaluations
We are finishing up some evaluations from last week’s Forum Tip-Off Classic. These are our player breakdowns from the Lawrence North’s win over Culver Academies.
Ethan Brittain-Watts | 6’1 | PG | 2019 | Culver Academies (IN) | Ethan is a tall lead guard that had to deal with a lot of pressure in this game from LN’s press. He was able to handle it decently well but it looked like it effected his scoring ability. Left things a bit short as he is needed by Culver to provide offense. While not a great shooting game from him, he did really take advantage on defense, helping slow down LN’s guards. With not much help on the ball, this was a tough task for Ethan. He finished with 7 points on 3/13 shooting along with 2 rebounds. |
Deontae Craig | 6’4 | SF | 2020 | Culver Academies (IN) | Craig did really well showing his versatility on defense. They moved him around a bit and was really good as an undersized post defender. He picked his spots really well on offense and everything came down low where he is just more physically imposing than others. Love the motor and he’s starting to show more growth with his frame, a little taller and strong than this summer. If he grows even more, his upside is big because he is really an interior player. He finished with 6 points on 3/5 shooting with 6 rebounds and 2 steals. |
Trey Galloway | 6’3 | SG | 2020 | Culver Academies (IN) | Galloway might have had his best performance we have seen. His shot looked stellar and the release was consistent. He’s grown a bit and has added some strength. Was aggressive trying to score the ball. Was good off the catch but also showed the ability to post up down low. Didn’t always get the best matchups down there but was effective. His upside looks good and maybe closer than we saw in the spring. He finished with 21 points on 8/14 shooting, 5/7 from three along with 4 rebounds. |
Michael Saunders Jr. | 5’11 | PG | 2020 | Lawrence North (IN) | Saunders was really good in this game. Was much more active, looking to attack the rim more than he had this season. Was tough at the rim and while he did miss some layups, he was doing so through contact. Controlled the game really well for Lawrence North and stepped up a bit as a leader through his play. He finished with 6 points on 2/9 shooting. |
Tony Perkins | 6’4 | SG | 2020 | Lawrence North (IN) | Perkins was solid in this game but will have to be a bit more efficient from the field. He’s gotten to where he can create more shots for himself, coming from all over the floor really, but with that he’ll need to finish those jumpers better or get at the rim. It is a learning thing but his potential is still very high. He’s rebounded the ball well using that athleticism and given LN another lengthy defender that will put in the effort on that end. He finished with 7 points on 2/7 shooting with 5 rebounds. |
J.P. Carroll | 5’10 | PG | 2019 | Lawrence North (IN) | While he only scored 3 points, we have really liked what we have seen from Carroll this year. He’s really tough with the ball in his hands, barely turns it over, and is a capable shooter when he gets looks. Isn’t a big offensive weapon but picks and chooses his spots really well. With more shooting opportunities, you should see his value rise quickly. Very confident and controlled player. He finished with 3 points on 1/1 shooting with a rebound and a steal. |
D.J. Hughes | 6’7 | PF | 2021 | Lawrence North (IN) | Hughes was very good in this game for LN. He got more run than the previous games and found ways to impact things outside of scoring. Passing looked solid and he made some plays with rebounds that were able to help get more opportunities. Loved his energy and the versatility and athleticism are showing in his game quickly now. He was impactful at the rim scoring 9 points on 4/5 shooting along with 7 rebounds. |
Kevin Easley | 6’7 | SF | 2018 | Lawrence North (IN) | Kevin has had an average year for him to this point, with only one big game on offense. He’s still not picking his spots great for an entire game. You see it in stretches but it is still difficult for him to do it all game long. When locked in, he’s pretty much unguardable. He has done will with his rebounding ability and has looked a bit more aggressive searching for the ball in those spots. He finished with 13 points on 3/8 shooting with 7 rebound, 4 offensive. |
