Five Takeaways: Silver Creek vs. North Harrison
One thing that we found out on Friday night is that the southern part of the state, with all of their talent, isn’t going away any time soon. Both Silver Creek and North Harrison battled with some solid young players but in the end it was junior Zane Gross and his 22 points for Silver Creek that led his team to a 42-28 victory.
Silver Creek Is Starting Out Strong, Tough Schedule Coming Up
Starting out 5-0, Silver Creek is starting to prove that they have the pieces to make a run this season. They have knocked off Henryville, Charlestown, Jennings County, Clarksville, and now North Harrison. It isn’t a stellar lineup of teams but they have done it nonetheless. Where things start to get interesting is next week when their gauntlet begins with Columbus East, Jeffersonville, and Bedford North Lawrence. Tough three games and will really give you and idea if they are going to compete this postseason.
North Harrison Has Solid Foundation For Growth
This wasn’t a great game for North Harrison and they are likely going to struggle in games this year. However, their young players are good and should give them a chance in the coming years. Langdon Hatton had some solid plays tonight and looks to be an impact guy down the line. 6’7 power forward with some upside. They also have guys like Braden Jenkins and Eli Gutknecht, a sophomore and junior respectively. This season could be a bit of an up and down but if these younger players can grow, the future could come a little quicker.
Zane Gross Taking Next Steps
We have really liked Silver Creek (IN) junior guard Zane Gross for some time. He’s a good shooter with size and some ball handling ability. Now, having not seen him in a little while, he’s really started to develop his creation ability. Saw him drive a ton, get into the lane and score it. Finishing is still a work in progress but he showed he has another avenue for offense. His 22 points in this game were the only stat line that was really impactful in this one and it isn’t his best game this season. Could be starting to break out a bit.
Silver Creek Freshman Duo Worth Watching
Part of the reason for the trip down south was to watch the three freshman for both teams. We talked early about Hatton for North Harrison but Silver Creek has a pair to watch. Trey Renn and Kooper Jacobi were really interesting. Renn is a 6’5 forward with good athleticism and some ball handling. Had a solid drive from 15’ to the rim. Jacobi was more impactful as he was shooting the ball well. Elbow jumper and a little floater inside. At 6’4+, he’s got a lot of upside.
Under-The-Radar Senior To Watch
As it has been all year, we are finding a few under-the-radar guys in each game. Most are older and in this one we found a guy as well. Really liked Quinn Kaiser of North Harrison. The 6’2 guard was really the only thing going for North Harrison in this one. He’s got good size and a good interior game. Does more slashing and posting for a guard but has a ton of mobility and athleticism to him. Finished with 10 points but was really efficient and effective. Name to track this season.
