Five Takeaways: Lehigh vs. Gulliver Prep
Gulliver Prep and Lehigh fought all afternoon long in a tough one at the City of Palms Classic.
Part of the Sunshine Series, Gulliver Prep came away the victor with a 77-70 victory over Lehigh.
Here are five takeaways from the game.
Jamal Mashburn Jr. is a superb shooter
With his father, a former NBA star Jamal Mashburn watching, Mashburn Jr. did his thing in the win over Lehigh. The sophomore scored a game-high 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the field. Outside of an airballed 3-pointer, he never stopped shooting and making plays out of nothing. The sky is the limit for Mashburn Jr.
Tony Sanders can create havoc
It is hard not to like Tony Sanders. The 6’6″ shooting guard had 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting before leaving late in the fourth quarter with a leg injury. He was helped off the court, but prior to that, Sanders was hitting jumpers with ease and finding openings all over the floor. The sophomore is part of a deep 2020 class at Gulliver Prep.
Bershard Edwards never stops
It took awhile for Edwards to get going, but it was fun to watch the senior never give up. He finished with 20 points, five rebounds and five assists. Edwards is as scrappy as you can be. I think he deserves a lot more attention from college coaches for the way he handles himself all game long.
Delshawn Green is a worker
The junior guard looks like he can already be in college with a full-fledged beard. Green added 12 points in this game on 5-of-14 shooting from the field. On a team packed with high-energy players, Green fits the bill.
Quick thoughts on both teams
Lehigh – This is a tough-minded with a ton of guards who can get up the court in a hurry. Edwards is the leader in all situations but Quan Martin, Green, Terrance McClendon and Quinton Desamours can do plenty.
Gulliver Prep – The Raiders are a sophomore oriented team with Mashburn Jr, Sanders, Gabe Taylor (19 points), Diego Lamonica and Jace Howard all at the forefront. I think this team will go far this season in Class 5A.
