WASHINGTON, DC — Dunbar hosted its Holiday Showcase, and we had the opportunity to catch three games featuring Northwestern, Theodore Roosevelt, St. Mary’s Ryken, Thurgood Marshall, and Takoma Academy along with the home team. Here is our full scouting report from our time in the gym.
Pesky on ball defender. Plays hard. Crafty ball handler who creates space. Can shoot the mid range pull-up. Gets in the lane. Keeps others involved.
Athletic guard who can get down hill, shoot the three, and also create for teammates. Much improved as a ball handler and shooter in recent months. Must become more consistent as a ball handler, but has a high basketball IQ, and a high ceiling.
Skilled lead guard. Makes plays for others. Can score when needed. Defends on and off the ball well. Will sacrifice body.
Dockery is a lefty with good size that can play both on and off the ball. He has a good middle game and can stretch the floor from deep, and he can also get his teammates involved when on the ball because he has good vision and makes good decisions. He also plays with a very high motor, has good length, and reacts quickly off the ball.
Long and lanky forward. Can elevate and finish with the best. Still has plenty of room for growth.
Athletic scoring guard. Can play on the ball at times. Can defend both guard spots. Super competitive, and explosive. Scores it from all three levels, and doesn’t mind contact at the rim. Decision making needs improvement in order to reach full potential.
Skilled wing who plays all over the floor. Tough defender. Can score in bunches. Needs to get a bit more consistent at finishing in traffic.
Kurnaz has good size at 6’8. The only thing preventing him from being a high major prospect is the fact that he doesn’t get great lift. He’s a very skilled forward who sets good screens, can score it with his back to the basket, and while facing up.
Face up 4. Good skill level. Versatile defender. Must play with a higher motor consistently.
Still growing. Has grown three inches since the high school season. Long limbed lefty. Can make shots from all over the floor. Defends multiple positions very well. Rebounds well from his position. Unselfish. Sees the floor. Can play the point.
Very crafty guard who can score in bunches. Always in attack mode. Very good defender. Can make shots from all over the floor. Gets into the paint consistently, and absorbs contact at the rim. Has great touch. Sees the floor. Needs to cut down on turnovers, but has the eye for a great pass.
Louis Tang is a 6’4 junior who plays with a high motor. Moves well without the ball. Decent shooter with nice touch.
Winner. Coach on the floor. Skilled lead guard who defends extremely well. Makes plays for others. Can score when asked.
Stretch forward with nice touch from the perimeter. Moves well without the ball. Needs to get stronger and continue to fill out
