Mullis recruited and coached four All – Americans, including two 1st Team All – American selections. A large number of Mullis’ former players have gone on to further their playing careers at the next level, including four-year colleges and some in the professional ranks PrepHoopsNC had the chance to catch up with Brandon and discuss how the season is going and how the recruiting process is going with one of his top players.
Justin Byerly: How’s the season going so far?
Brandon Mullis: We are 2-1 so far. Lost on Tuesday night in OT. Had lead late in regulation and couldn’t finish. They hit a 3 at the buzzer to force OT. Again had lead late in OT and couldn’t finish.
Justin Byerly: What type of player is Satchel Hester?
Brandon Mullis: Satchel is a very versatile skilled player. 6’7″ about 185lbs. Long and wiry. Working on adding muscle. He’s a true stretch 4 kind of guy. Can shoot it from outside. Gets to the rim. Plays above the rim. Has decent and improving ball handles. Good individual and team defender. Long and gets lots of deflections and rebounds.
Justin Byerly: What is his recruitment looking like?
Brandon Mullis: His recruiting has been all over the place. D1’s (Navy, VMI, Army, a few others) have been in to see him. Bunch of D2’s like Lees-McRae (have offered), UNC-Pembroke, Newberry and several others really like him. A few D3’s and also some JUCO’s. So it’s all across the board right now.
