Cincinnati Basketball Diaries: It’s the Quarter Mark
It’s hard to fathom that we are already at the quarter point of the regular season here in Ohio! And as the holidays approach, the number of storylines here in Cincinnati are starting to surface and take precedent. Here are some of the top storylines in the Cincinnati area so far, this season.
Can anyone beat Deer Park? This season the Wildcats have passed every test thrown at them, and with flying colors. Coach Steve Gentry has his squad off to an 7-0 start which includes four games of scoring at least 95 points. And in two of those games they reached 111 and 113 points respectively. I hear that a just scheduled game with Taft is coming on the 29th, just another test for what looks to be the best D-III team in Cincy.
One of the surprise teams in the area must be the McNicholas Rockets. According to the GCL Co-Ed website McNick has not won a conference title since at least 2014, but that may change this season with the Rockets off to an 6-0 start, 3-0 in conference. This includes an overtime victory over Taft and a home win over defending league champ Roger Bacon. Lead by the senior duo of Ryan Reidy (PHO #179, 16.4ppg) and Cole Burdick (13.8ppg), there could be a banner coming to Beechmont Road soon.
Is their a player in the city who is off to a hotter start than Woodward’s Terry Durham (PHO #88)? The Bulldog forward has had a double-double in 7 of the first 8 games and is averaging 24.8 points and 13.4 rebounds per game, both tops in the CMAC. And let’s not forget the three 30-point, 15-rebound efforts he has produced this season. If Durham continues at this pace all-state honors should come Durham’s way….
Man, what a fun second half of the season we are about to half….
Speaking of the second half let’s talk about the fact that a whole plethora of players are about to take the court for their new programs starting within the next few weeks. After sitting out the mandatory eleven games, many of these players are potential game-changers and could help their teams make a deep run into March. Look for more on these transfers in the coming weeks here at Prep Hoops.
Sure would be nice if Ohio had a shot-clock……
