One of the biggest tournaments in the region, The Chick-Fil-A Classic brings in the top players, programs and college coaches in the country every year. The 2017 edition was no different with star power galore in Columbia, South Carolina. PrepHoopsNC’s Justin Byerly takes a look at some of the recruiting news from the event.
Suffren Proves He is a Player
6’4 2018 guard/wing Isaac Suffren put up some of the best numbers of anyone in the event, averaging 25 points per game over the three-game tournament. He also was a force on the rebounding end and showed that his three-point shot will translate well to the next level. He picked up an offer from Drexel University during the week and New Orleans reached out. He is sure to get a lot more calls over the next few days of the holiday week.
Coaches See Braswell’s Potential
At 6-foot-9, Robert Braswell of Blythewood High School (S.Car.), picked up an offer from Oklahoma State before the Chick-Fil-A tournament even started, and Head Coach Mike Boynton saw him play on Wednesday night. Assistant coach John Cooper was at Richland Northeast High School on Thursday to see Braswell. He told me that Texas A&M, Campbell, Wofford, Winthrop and Presbyterian have also called and expressed interest. With Braswell being in the 2018 class, he is a wanted prospect with his ability to stretch the floor and make shots from deep. He runs the floor well and can rebound.
Brakefield Shows Out
2020 prospect Jaemyn Brakefield of Huntington Prep had a really good showing at The Chick-Fil-A Classic and gained some college offers and interest over the week. He is one of the most athletic players in the class and had some highlight reel dunks. He has earned offers from UCLA, Georgetown, Wake Forest, South Carolina, Baylor, Virginia Tech, and Houston. Kentucky (visited), Auburn, & Mississippi State have expressed interest and he mentioned he would love to hear from Duke and Kansas in the process moving forward.
