The Catch-Up: Offers and Milestones
It appears that many senior basketball players made Santa’s nice list this year. Seems like scholarship offers are going out for a lot of Kentucky’s top 2018 players in the last week or so. Just in time for Christmas. No better present than a full scholarship to a college or university. On top of that, several more Kentucky hoopers have reached some career milestones in the past week. Here’s a quick roundup of the happenings around the Commonwealth.
Greenup County Senior guard Gage Hughes just eclipsed the school scoring record. Hughes, a Cincinnati baseball commit, scored his 2,346th career point on Wednesday night. Hughes is a player who probably doesn’t get enough recognition because of where he plays but he could score over 3,000 points in his career if he keeps up his averages.
Bowling Green Senior forward Jarius Key added his second offer this week. The Senior forward added an offer from NAIA’s #1 team Georgetown College. Key is a great example of waiting for your time. He sat behind Terry Taylor and Kyran Jones for 3 years and is now thriving for the Purples.
Senior Jared Coomer eclipsed 1,000 career points on Friday night. The Barren County star has seen a rise in his recruiting lately. He added an offer from Pikeville this week to go along with his offers from Lindsey Wilson and Campbellsville.
Another Senior, Adam Kunkel from Cooper became the all time leading scorer for the Jaguars when he scored his 1,283rd point to eclipse the mark set by recently graduated Sean McNeil. Kunkel will go down as one of the better players to come from Northern Kentucky in recent years.
Campbell County Senior Tanner Clos got his first offer from Cincinnati Christian after the Camels’ game on Thursday. Clos is averaging just shy of 14 points per game for Campbell County.
Covington Catholic Junior Nick Thelen has received his first offer, this one coming from D2 powerhouse Bellarmine. Thelen was heavily recruited by the Knights at the Thanksgiving dinner table and should see the same thing as Christmas as his older brother Jake is an assistant for Bellarmine.
