Bob Wettig: 2021 Evaluations
The Bob Wettig Tournament provided a great look at a lot of new faces along with some of the state’s best. The first day of the event was really solid and gave us some solid game and prospect matchups. Here is our breakdown of those 2021 prospects.
Jake Moynihan – 6’4 SF 2021 – Seton Catholic (IN)
Jake is a tall forward with really good mobility and a frame that is already growing. He looks bigger since the fall and has really strengthened the frame too. He played all over the floor, out on the wing and as well inside. Has enough strength right now to battle inside a bit against bigger forwards but has enough skill to facilitate along the arc. Will have to improve the handles but already showing more versatility than we thought originally.
Mason Gonzales – 6’0 PG 2021 – Franklin Central (IN)
Gonzales is a solid lead guard with the scoring ability you want to see. He’s got enough size and strength right now where he can be an impact player. He’s really a shooter on offense right now and is really solid with it. He’s not doing a ton off the bounce but he can bring the ball up against some pressure and make those key passes right now. Still early but has a lot to work with in the next couple years.
Lane Sparks – 6’1 PG 2021 – Greensburg (IN)
Sparks is a stellar lead guard with a ton of game right now. Tough and has the confidence you want to see. Was a shot maker in this game hitting them from three, the mid-range, and at the rim. Does really well on the ball but smart enough to move to make plays off it as well. He was the best player for Greensburg in this game and seemed to be in most of the plays. To do that on an already loaded team as a freshman says something. Great start to his high school career.
Cole Greenwalt – 5’10 SG 2021 – Park Tudor (IN)
Cole is a smaller scoring guard but has a knock down stroke if you can find him on the perimeter. Good body with some strength and handles but not real tall right now. Could see his game go in a few different directions but he is a no-doubt shooter. Was able to provide some ball handling later in the game after Moore got hurt.
Ronald Johnson – 6’0 SG 2021 – Park Tudor (IN)
Ronald is a tall guard with a great frame that should grow really well. Has strength already and was really good today when they needed him. Showed solid handles and some flash to him. His jumper looks really solid and the release is repeatable. Has the offensive motor that you want with the ability to score it in bunches. Has all the makings of a really top-end player.
