Bob Wettig: 2020 Evaluations
The Bob Wettig Tournament provided a great look at a lot of new faces along with some of the state’s best. The first day of the event was really solid and gave us some solid game and prospect matchups. Here is our breakdown of those 2020 prospects.
Jacob Brown – 6’6 C 2020 – Connersville (IN)
Brown is a solid low post player with good size and frame already. He was really active and showed a good motor on the low block. Was willing to knock around down there and battle for rebounds. Was a big reason why Northwest’s 6’10 post struggled to get much going. He’s still a bit raw but his power in the post is really good and with his motor, could be a guy to watch moving forward.
Kadaphi Honaker – 6’4 SF 2020 – Park Tudor (IN)
Honaker was really solid in this game as he continues to expand his ability beyond the paint. He looks much more fluid with his athleticism and the handles are even improving. Was good in this game in the middle of the floor faced up and driving. Rebounding game was solid and he looked a bit better as a passer. When he did look to drive he was able to draw some fouls and get to the line. More of that would be beneficial moving forward.
Andrew Welage – 6’5 SG 2020 – Greensburg (IN)
This wasn’t the best game from Welage as he’s seeing some development in his game. He is handling the ball a lot more than normal and trying to make plays with his drive and pass ability. He’s struggling a little bit to do that against length but also doing it and keeping his offense up. If he can figure out how to balance that part of his game, that next step will come through. A work in progress but just the next step.
Sincere McMahon – 6’0 PG 2020 – Tindley (IN)
Sincere is having a great year as well as his jumper has been locked in allowing him to have some really big scoring games. He had his perimeter jumper really working off the catch and was able to get a bunch of looks early in this one. He was able to play off the bounce a bit, not really searching for any and every opportunity but just being efficient picking his spots. His offense has really blossomed this year. With some pressure taken off of him.
Mitchell Wirts – 6’5 PF 2020 – Indianapolis Homeschool (IN)
Wirts is a smaller forward who plays much like a stretch forward. Has enough skill in the post to be effective but a capable jumper from three where he can take advantage. He’s pretty mobile and can get to spots pretty quickly. Not really athletic but has decent footwork and if he can catch a growth spurt, you could have a solid college player. Needs to add some strength as well but the frame should grow pretty well.
Rickie Wedlow – 6’1 SG 2020 – Richmond (IN)
Wedlow looked solid for stretches of this game. His jumper was really good in the middle of the game off the catch. Was able to play on the ball a bit and slashed through the lane pretty well using some creativeness on his finishes. Has to be a little more consistent with the release but he’s definitely capable of getting hot quickly. Body looks stronger and he’s got a little more size to him with his lean frame.
