5 Takeaways: Tri-West vs. Harrison
Tri-West made the trip up to West Lafayette on Wednesday night to take on the Harrison Raiders. Both teams primarily rely on their guards and we saw that as both teams tried to get to the rim and shoot pull up jumpers. This created an exciting environment for all involved. Both teams got out to a quick start but cooled off in the second quarter. Tri-West led at the half 33-24. Tri-West would survive a Harrison 2nd half attack that just kept coming and took the 76-65 win. View the complete stats here:
Tri-West is ranked #3 in 3A, are they really that good?
3A this year is odd because there are a ton of good teams. Tri-West is currently ranked 3rd, behind Attucks and Bosse. Those two stand alone at the top but then there are teams such as Brebeuf, Culver, Greensburg, and New Castle. Tri-West can really shoot the ball and they play the game really tough so they should hang with anyone in the state. Come tournament time, a lack of a post player is really going to hurt them even though they rebound the ball so well.
Harrison lost a week ago by 56 points, they aren’t that bad.
Harrison lost this game but they aren’t as bad as the McCutcheon game made them look. They have a few nice pieces and a few guys who can score. Both of the Munoz brothers are good shooters and Alex Bauer can score it as well. In this game, they just didn’t make the shots they should have. Harrison really lost it by shooting awful shots as they were trying to come back late.
Benito Munoz and Tyler Watson are two of the premier scoring guards in the state
Both players aren’t flashy by any means, but both will score on you in a multitude of ways. Watson loves the pull-up jumper and Munoz loves the deep three and likes to post up smaller guards. They both can take over the game and both are allowed to shoot as much as they want to do so. Munoz has a lesser supporting cast so you’ll see him regularly score more points than Watson, but if Watson wanted to he could take the game over. In the game, Munoz led all scorers with 24 and Watson scored 18.
Tri-West is one of the better shooting teams in the state
Tri-West is a great shooting team. They love to run baseline and cross it over to the corner for a wide-open three-pointer. They also love to make the extra pass to an open teammate as they had 17 assists in the game. They don’t shy away from driving the ball and their shooters really get open due to the penetration they get.
Which team is more rounded?
Tri-West had four guys in double figures and six guys with seven or more points in the game. Tri-West is a team that will do this regularly with multiple guys that can score and pass the ball. Harrison is very scoring dominant with their top three guys but others can score as well. If you shut down Munoz, others will step up and keep the scoring up but Tri-West gets the nod here just because they are so deep.
