5 Takeaways from Lafayette Jefferson vs. Lafayette Central Catholic
In a high scoring second half, Lafayette Jefferson scored 41 points to break the halftime tie in the second half. At the half, it was knotted at 20 but the remainder of the game was a fast-paced scoring frenzy. Jefferson won 61-58 as LCC’s last second shot missed everything. Leading the game in scoring and rebounding was LCC’s Carson Barrett with 21 and 15, respectively. Full stats: Jeff vs. LCC
The young guys can ball!
Both of these teams have a couple guys who are really good for both of them. For LCC you have sophomore standout Carson Barrett along with freshman guard AJ Bordenet who both can score points and do anything that is asked of them. With Jefferson, you will see one of the better freshman guards as Max Grimes runs the point along with sophomore Avery Beaver (pictured) who can really fill up the scoring column. These four guys are going to be the guys that both of these teams rely on for the next couple years with Barrett and Grimes being two of the best players in the city.
Can anyone stop Carson Barrett?
Barrett is a double-double machine as he put up 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. He has been putting up some massive stat lines this year and will continue to do so. Barrett pretty much has the go ahead to do pretty much anything so we’ll see him make some really dumb plays, but the good will outnumber the bad. Barrett is the tallest guy on the team so he will always be the leading rebounder and the offense runs through him so he’ll always be able to put up points. The best player for LCC with his driving, dishing, and rebounding abilities.
How good will Max Grimes be?
I saw Grimes for the first time in their scrimmage with Carmel and I was impressed with him even then. Now that he is running the point, I like him even more. In this game, Grimes was much more verbal and he controlled the offense really well. He fouled out on the game and did sit for a little bit, but still put up a gaudy stat line for a 6’1 freshman. He ended the game with 17 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal. The biggest thing to his game was that he only had two turnovers and played pretty good defense. He’s going to be really good for them in his career.
Is LCC still the power they once were?
LCC has been pretty good at basketball, and quite frankly their entire school is an athletics powerhouse. They lose a couple players off of last year’s team, some of which were multiple year starters for them. I thought that would hurt them but it really hasn’t affected anything I don’t think. They looked really good and Jonah Switzer is a really good player to compliment Barrett. They don’t have size but their guard play is really good and they are one of the most fundamental teams in the state and that will win them a lot of games.
Lafayette Jefferson is going to turn some heads this year.
Jefferson is a really solid team, much better than they have been in the past. James Burns (pictured) is a guy who will overpower a lot of people and get to the rim really well. Burns struggles to shoot the ball but when he is driving the ball well he’s a really dangerous guy. Marell Jordan is a guy that can shoot the ball really well and Max Grimes is going to be a stud for them as a freshman. Ziare Williams can really get into the scoring column as well and can knock the deep ball down consistently. They will really create some havoc on teams that don’t have a good defensive lineup or the ability to score 70 points.
