5 Takeaways : North Myrtle Beach vs Socastee
North Myrtle Beach HS Coach Alvin Green returned to Hwy 707 and his old stoming grounds last night with his Chiefs squad. Green the 2000 State Player of the Year in the Palmetto State played his high school basketball at Socastee HS.
The Chiefs and Braves both came out on fire in the first quarter. The teams combined on 8 three pointers and the scored was 22-18 after one quarter. The Chiefs remained in the lead to the halftime break 34-28.
The Chiefs built the lead to 39-29 when Cason McClendon connected on a three pointer. The Chiefs would never look back and came up with a big win on the road at Horry County rival Socastee 59-50.
MVP : Cooper Chandler (2018) North Myrtle Beach HS
Chandler was the catalyst time after time tonight for the Chiefs. Cooper finished the evening with 11 points and connected a few three pointers. Chandler was constantly swarming the ball and diving on the floor for loose balls.
Tyron StockdaleChiefs Guard Play : Tyron Stockdale (2019) Travis Collins (2019) and Jevon Griffin (2019)
Stockdale plays with a alot of swagger and confidence on the floor. Stockdale is recently coming off a huge season on the gridiron for the Chiefs. Collins scored all of his points from 10 feet in on the floor. Collins showed a nice mid-range jumper a few times.
Griffin a left-handed off guard knocked down some three pointers on the wings. This trio of guards plus Chandler give the Chiefs a good look in the back court. Stockdale and Collins both scored 10 points in the win.
Best Underclassmen : Jay Williams (2019) Socastee HS
Williams has a lot of talent and he just really needs to figure it out at times. Williams a left-handed guard scored 11 points in the loss. Williams at times gets a little chatty on the floor.
Best Player of the Bench : Kenney Solomon (2019) Socastee HS
Solomon can absolutely fly from one side of the court to the other. Solomon came and provided a spark to the Braves in the 3rd quarter and scored 7 of his 9 points on the evening. Solomon a wide receiver / defensive back plays with a high motor and a lot of energy on the floor.
Takeaway:
The Braves have 3 mre games this week all in the 3rd Annual HTC Tip Off Classic at Conway Christian. Andrew Gardner (2018) needs to start turning it up for the Braves. Gardner finished the night with 9 points after hitting a 3 pointer late in the game. Kendrell Generette scored 6 points in the game in the first few minutes of the game and went silent the rest of the way.
The Chiefs dressed only 9 kids for the game. Quarterback Cason McClendon (2019) took high honors with 14 points.
