10 Best: Reynolds HS vs North Buncombe HS
Two of the top teams in WNC tangled on Tuesday night at North Buncombe High School with The Blackhawks prevailing 81-71.
MVP: Ren Dyer (2019, SF)- One of the quickest second jump players that I have ever covered, he can get off the floor in a hurry. He is one of the most athletic players in the area and can finish plays above the rim. He had another 30+ point night for The Blackhawks.
Best Shooter: Chandler Brown (2018, SG)-Brown, standing around 5-foot-8, let it fly whenever he had a clean look last night and made a good amount of them. He has a good stroke and is a consistent threat from beyond the arc.
Best Passer: Isaiah Pruett (2018, PG)-Pruett is a speedster in the open floor and makes the right pass most of the time. He does a good job of seeing a pass and getting it to the player for the assist. He is quick enough to get into the paint and then distribute the basketball.
Best Rebounder: Ren Dyer (2019, SF)-The MVP of this game is also the best rebounder one the floor. He is so athletic, and has such a high vertical that not many people in this area can hang with him. He does a good job of boxing out and grabbing boards with one hand.
Reynolds’ Best Shooter: Jace Dover (2018, SF)-Shot the ball extremely well from beyond the three-point line and brought energy to the game with his physical and athletic play. Has a high release on his jump-shot and was consistent when shooting.
Best Ball Handler: JT Laws (2018, G)-Laws was impressive with the ball in his hands, he made defenders miss and was able to get by defenders with ease with his ball-handling. He is a skilled guard that can make plays.
Best Scorer: Ren Dyer (2019, SF)-Dyer did not start out on the same pace as he is known for, but didn’t let that affect his overall play. He let the game come to him and scored when he had the best opportunities. He is getting the back-down post-up turnaround jumper down and it is hard to guard with his jumping ability.
Top College Prospect: Ren Dyer (2019, SF)-Dyer has the best chance of anyone on the floor of competing at the college level. He has to improve his shooting and his ball-handling but he is on his way. His athleticism will get him there but to succeed he will need to improve on those two things.
Best D2 Prospect: Isaiah Pruett (2018, PG)-The steady lead guard for Reynolds HS has the tools to be a solid D2-D3 prospect at the next level. He is a skilled point guard that can set up his teammates and can score off the dribble. He will need to work on his shooting percentages and get a little stronger when getting into the paint and finishing with contact.
What’s Next: North Buncombe will face Mountain Heritage HS on Thursday and Reynolds HS will face Mitchell HS on Thursday.
