West Orange vs Dr. Phillips
Brotherly Love was the theme all night during the season opener for both Dr. Phillips and West Orange. Led by 26 points from Mercer commit Daniel Love, and 14 points from sibling Dante Love, Dr. Phillips ran away in the second half.
In what was a sloppy game most of the first half for both teams, West Orange held a one point lead at the break, paced by their standout senior, Troy commit KJ Simon. Dr. Phillips made the right adjustments at half, which led to multiple defensive stops which started fast breaks for them.
A relatively close game saw Simon foul out midway through the 3rd quarter, and the Warriors were not the same moving forward. The blow of losing their go to guy was too much to overcome as Dr. Phillips went on a game clinching run that blew the game wide open.
Dr. Phillips knocked down three after three and out worked the Warriors on the glass down the stretch, a physical showing by a team that can make some noise this season if they build on this effort. The Love brothers will be looked on to lead the way for their squad, and if tonight is any indication they are more than up for the challenge.
