Top 2-way players
Essentially, there are two aspects that need to be considered when analyzing a player’s basketball skills: his/her offensive ability and his/her defensive ability. If a player is great on offense and great on defense, then he/she is a great two-way player. However, if that said player is only good at one of those two aspects of the game, then he/she is not a great two-way player.
A two-way player is someone who possesses the qualities of good defense and good offense. A great example is Kawhi Leonard, the starting small forward for the San Antonio Spurs; probably the “best two-way” player in the league. He is no regular NBA player, he is one of the best players in the league due to his two-way play style, one minute he’s banking a clutch three and the next minute he’s blocking a potential game clinching shot.
Lincoln guard Trevante Anderson continues to turn heads and is on the rise. Anderson is a solid guard, with a high basketball IQ. He’s always making the right play, slowing the game down and playing at his own pace. He does a great job creating off the dribble, putting his teammates in better positions to score.
“I feel like my strength is being a creator, for myself and my teammates. Another strength is my competitive nature. I try to always work twice as harder than the competition” said Anderson. Working hard on both ends of the floor, Anderson still feels he has to be more vocal on the court. He looks to improve in a couple areas to become a better player.
Class of 2019 point guard DaeShawn Wayne is a quick and shifty 6’0 point guard. He is a lead guard that likes to dish the rock. Pesky on ball defender that has good leadership qualities. Good D2 prospect. He still needs to improve on his long-range shooting, which will come in time and with the right program he can really flourish into becoming a very good player.. He has a serious handle which enables him to blow by his defender and can finish with both hands at the rim.
Class of 2021 6’1 guard Omari Maulana is poised and ready to have a break out freshman year for the Life Christian Academy Eagles. This young man is as aggressive as they come. He has a very good handle, good foot work to set up his blow by attacks and is a physical defender on the wing. He has a good mid-range jump shot and has the ability to apply pressure to the opposing guard all game along, which doesn’t only take intensity but HEART.
Class of 2018 6’0 guard Jeremy Spencer is a tough guard that embraces physicality. His biggest strength is taking the ball to the basket whether it is in transition or taking his man off the dribble in the half court. Jeremy can also take control of a team in the half court and initiate sets. North Thurston is a team that tends to use very little clock when they are not in transition, so Jeremy has the responsibility of ensuring execution. The 6’0 guard does a good job getting after it defensively with active hands.
Class of 2018 6’0 guard Eddie Turner III is turning heads this summer stock is rising each game. Eddie Tuner is one of the more dynamic scorers in the Class of 2018. From the looks of his game at the showcase, he has been working on his jumper from deep and his court awareness. He knocked down the long ball with consistency throughout the day. He also showed his passing skills with ball-screen action. Eddie has added strength to his frame which allows him to finish better in around the basket. After playing for Seattle Rotary last summer, Turner now plays for Team Bradley in the Adidas circuit and he has been playing really well. He is a pass first point guard, always applying pressure on defense and finding the open teammate. He is very shifty, exploding out of his moves for easy buckets and knocking down shots more consistently now. Turner should pick up more college interest this summer.
