Ten Reasons to be excited for the 2017-18 season: PC West’s youth and the rise of Rondel Walker
The 2017-2018 season looks to be one of the more interesting seasons in a while. Some elite talent has either graduated or left the state which created a huge vacuum for other teams and players to try and fill. Therefore, there are many reasons to be pumped for this season.
In this series, we will spotlight the ten reasons to be excited about the 2017-18 season.
PC West young talent and the rise of Rondel Walker
The Patriots come into the season as one of the youngest in 6A but they all have the ability to play at this level. They have the luxury of going young and still expecting production from players like 2021 Tobias Roland and 2020 MJ Warrior.
Senior leadership will have to come from 2018 guard Greg Thomas. The lefty will have to bring the Patriots up to speed and set the tone for his fellow Patriots. Thomas is a shifty scorer who can get hot and explode for big offensive nights.
There will be a learning curve to climb over but PC West has what it takes to get hot down the stretch and create issues in the playoff brackets.
2020 Guard Rondel Walker is a highly-talented wing who is coming off a productive freshman year.
The 6’2 shooter hit big shots for the Patriots last year and he is looking to take the next step as a great prep player.
He was mostly filling the role as the sniper for his team last year but he has shown growth in his game with the ability to get to the basket off the dribble. Even with his slight frame, Walker has shown the willingness to take contact in the paint and getting more free throw opportunities.
Walker already holds a D1 offer from Oklahoma State and you can see why. It will be interesting to see if Walker can have a sensational sophomore season and plant his flag as one of the best players in the state.
