Ten reasons to be excited for the 2017-18 season: Broken Arrow’s terrific trio
The 2017-2018 season looks to be one of the more interesting seasons in a while. Some elite talent has either graduated or left the state which created a huge vacuum for other teams and players to try and fill. Therefore, there are many reasons to be pumped for this season.
In this series, we will spotlight the ten reasons to be excited about the 2017-18 season.
Broken Arrow’s terrific trio
The Tigers have a trio of the best players in the state in 2018 Arkansas Fort-Smith commit Braden Boyer, 2018 guard Caleb Huffman and 2019 guard Camyrn Dennis. If there was a three on three tournament around the state, these Tigers would be a tough out.
Boyer is a 6’8 mobile forward who blew up this summer due to opportunity and pure talent. He is more athletic vertically than he looks and has the ability to put the ball on the floor is special. Boyer is just scratching his potential.
Huffman may be the most athletic player in the state. He is at his best when he puts that elite athleticism in use in transition where he is unstoppable. He also has good size for a point guard at 6’3. He is a tough matchup for any guard at the high school level.
Dennis is a dynamic lefty who is steadily improving year by year. Dennis is more of a combo guard who can get to the basket at will and create problems. He also is one of the best “sneak dunkers” around. He will go to the basket casually and then all of a sudden he rises and throws down a left hand jam without warning.
Broken Arrow had a bounce back season last year led by talent and senior leadership but that leadership is gone and now Boyer, Huffman, and Dennis must step up their vocal presence and make their teammates better.
However, it’s not like Boyer, Huffman, and Dennis are not surrounded by talent. They have a talented move-in forward in 2018 Josh Robinson who has great size to defend. 2018 guard Major Smith brings the ability to score from long range which opens up things for the dynamic offensive players around him.
Broken arrow has one of the best starting fives in the state so they have no issues with talent level.
It will be interesting to see how BA grows throughout the season. Big years from their dynamic trio could lead to another state tournament appearance and more.
