Ten Best: Brownsburg vs. Pike
Coming in, Pike vs. Brownsburg was heralded to be a really good game and while the score was relatively close, the game was much more lopsided than it seemed. Brownsburg went on the road and easily won 63-49. Despite not hitting a three-pointer, Brownsburg shot 53 percent in the game and closed it out in the fourth quarter scoring 29 points.
Pike struggled against the zone of Brownsburg and just couldn’t hit a shot. Pike was led in scoring by Caleb Redman with 13 points and Brownsburg was paced by Cameron Alford who ended with 23. View complete stats here:
MVP – Malek Edmonds | 2020 | 6’6 PF
Edmonds was a force down low. He really was able to do anything he wanted down low. He scored 16 points in second half. Edmond grabbed four rebounds and only had one turnover in the game. He’s still a bit raw but can really score when he’s on a smaller defender.
Best offensive player – Cameron Alford | 2019 | 6’2 SG
We knew coming in that Alford was going to score and he did not disappoint. He put up 23 points and hit 9-of-10 from the line down the stretch. He is a guy who will get to the rim when he wants to and he did just that in this game.
Best defensive player – Darian Porch | 2018 | 6’6 SF
Porch was really solid in this one. He had two blocks and two steals and really made life hard for the offense of Brownsburg. He’s a bouncy forward who uses his athleticism and length to stay in front of his man. He also runs in transition really well off of the defense end.
Best bench player – Antrez Baker | 2018 | 6’5 PF
Baker came in and contributed six points and seven rebounds off the bench. Three of those rebounds were offensive and he knocked down all of his free throws. Baker mainly brought energy off the bench to the team, as you can tell there was an uptick in energy once he entered.
Best prospect – Hunter White | 2018 | 6’3 G
After transferring to Pike from Tindley, White is poised for a breakout year. He played pretty well, scoring 11 points and hauling down three rebounds but, he was a little too passive. He is a low major type of player and you can see that when he plays and is aggressive.
Best raw player – Pierce Thomas | 2021 | 6’5 G
Thomas was really impressive for a freshman. He scored seven points and had a couple steals and assists. On one trip, he stole the ball and slammed it home in one motion. He has the chance to be really, really good this year once he learns to be a little more aggressive.
Best guy I didn’t know before – Caleb Redman | 2019 | 6’2 G
Redmond was Pike’s leading scorer with 13 points. He made three three-pointers, and only turned the ball over one time. He was easily the best player on Pike’s team tonight and did everything pretty well
Best play – Pierce Thomas steal and slam

Best coaching decision – Steve Lynch let Pike shoot 3s
Pike was 4-of-24 from deep in the game and kept on shooting it from deep. Pike was stopped pretty easily from shooting those deep balls
Best storyline – Brownsburg with a big win, can they keep it going?
Brownsburg is now 2-0 on the year with maybe their biggest test coming up this weekend with a Friday-Saturday slate of La Lumiere and Culver, two of the best teams they’ll face all year long. If they go 1-1 this weekend they’ll have done really well and if they win both they’ll quickly shoot up the polls.
