Ten Best: Asheville HS vs TC Roberson HS
A matchup between two of the Mountain Athletic Conference’s biggest rivals, Asheville High School hosted TC Roberson High School on Tuesday night.
MVP: 2018 Logan Warren was unstoppable shooting the basketball last night, he ended the night with 33 points including 6 three-point baskets and he was big at the free-throw line when it mattered.
Best Passer: Soloman Todd of Asheville High School made some difficult passes look easy down the stretch for The Cougars. He at some points of the game seemed to have eyes in the back of his head.
Best Rebounder: Big man Marvin Pearson of Asheville High School did a really good job on the boards. Big and physical, Pearson is a football prospect that can also play some basketball.
MVP (Roberson)-The best player on the floor for the visiting Rams was Sam Rennard, a 6-foot-3 forward. He did a good job of rebounding and getting scores on the post.
Best Post Player: Marvin Pearson of Asheville High School was unstoppable when he was given the ball down in the low post. He is just so big and strong that nobody for the Rams could stop him.
Best Shooter: Logan Warren. The 2018 unsigned senior will make for a good Division II prospect and can make shots consistently. He has a pure stroke and doesn’t miss much.
Key to the Game: The shooting of Logan Warren changed the game from a tight ball game after halftime to a 14-16 point lead for Asheville High School going into the 4th quarter.
Best Upperclassman: Zion Walker. The senior guard did a lot of everything pretty good for Asheville. Rebounds, gets to the free-throw line, gets deflections, shoots it well and gets into the paint.
Best Underclassman: Tyrece Thompson. The sophomore did not have a strong shooting night but did some of the little things that allowed Asheville to get the win. Got to the free-throw line when he needed to at the end of the game and knocked them down, came up with big steals and tried to keep the rest of his teams’ composure when things were getting a little out of hand near the end.
Interesting Note: Former Asheville High School girls’ head coach Sonita Warren-Dixon was in the building last night. She led the Lady Cougars to three-straight NCHSAA 3-A state titles in the early 2000’s.
