Standouts: Windermere Prep at Seffner Christian
Two days after getting upset by Tampa Catholic, Windermere Prep took down Seffner Christian 81-59 on Thursday night.
The Lakers were led by sophomore guard Blake Stillwell (13 points), senior forward Shaquan Jules (13 points) and senior guard Rahsaan Lewis (12 points).
Seffner Christian earned 15 points from senior guard Darius Hopkins and 11 points from junior forward Cornelius Bobo.
Here are the top standouts from the Thursday night tilt.
Blake Stillwell (Windermere Prep)
Only a sophomore, Stilwell had a nice start to this game with seven points in the first quarter. He finished with 13 points tying Jules for the team lead. He’s going to continue to get better as a shooter and attacker. I like Stillwell’s motor as it seemed like he never got tired throughout the night.
Darius Hopkins (Seffner Christian)
Hopkins, the top playmaker for the Crusaders had a game-high 15 points. After a scoreless first quarter, he came alive in the second half scoring 13 points. Hopkins scored with 0.6 seconds on the clock in the first half. He hit a few key 3’s and did his usual as a physical driving presence.
Shaquan Jules (Windermere Prep)
Bouncy and lengthy, Jules didn’t have to work too hard for his 13 points. His jumper isn’t quite there, but what he lacks there he makes up in athleticism. Jules had three dunks and some fancy lay-ins. He’s simply bigger and stronger than a lot of his competition.
Cornelius Bobo (Seffner Christian)
Bobo surprised me with his range. The junior forward paced Hopkins with 11 points which included a few of nice drives to the rim and one triple. Bobo played sparingly last year behind a loaded senior class. He’s in for a major role for this new-look group.
Rahsaan Lewis (Windermere Prep)
Rahsaan Lewis, the son of NFL Hall of Famer Ray Lewis is rocking the No. 52 jersey to represent his dad (PHOTO). The senior opened up the game red hot with eight points in the first quarter. Ending up with 12 points, Lewis did it all for the Lakers in transition, dishing out assists and stealing passes. His best plays are attacks to the rim. Lewis rarely comes out of the game.
Matt Baird/Bryan Chong/Dawson Leipold (Seffner Christian)
Baird, Chong and Leipold all stepped up at times with junior Khalil Waleed and freshman Mike Trigg out with injuries. Baird added nine points, Chong scored all of his 11 points in the fourth quarter and Leipold recorded six points (both on 3’s). Baird is a crafty senior forward who is good inside, Chong is a reliable senior outside shooter and Leipold is a fun freshman to watch.
Zavien Williams (Windermere Prep)
Williams stretched the floor well alongside Lewis and Jules. The freshman guard had 12 points including, two 3’s. Williams is going to be a key factor for the Lakers in this up-tempo offense. I like his speed and athleticism. He’s a dangerous shooter.
Note: Balsa Koprivica remains out due to an ongoing investigation.
