Spotlight: Kevin Legardy, Canyon Springs HS.
Over the years Canyon Springs High School out of the Northwest division have produced some very good players. 90% of the players that come out of this high school are very athletic. They are keeping that tradition going. 2018 6’1″ PG Kevin Legard is a very physical guard that is built like a tailback. Last season Canyon Springs finish 21-3 8-0 in league, and made it to the semifinals before losing.
This young man has the skills to play at the next level. Last season he average 15.5 ppg 4.2 apg and was a key component to there successful season. Las Vegas is a guard city, and there are some good ones that many in the nation don’t know about. This young man upper body strength is something very special. He has the ability to get in the lane and make plays for himself and also teammates. At 6’1″ he rebounds very well for his size.
Kevin is starting to understand in order to make the transition to the college level. There are some things that he will need to improve on. ” I need to be a better leader on the court, by controlling the game”. “And putting my teammates in better scoring situation”.
2018 PG Kevin Legardy Canyon Springs HSI had an opportunity to sit down with his Head Coach Freddy Bank, former UNLV star and Detroit Piston. I ask coach Bank, what would he like to see from his point guard this year?
“He has mature a lot as a player. He’s going to the basket a lot stronger, and his jump shot is coming along very well. I want Kevin to tighten up on his defense. Because this is what college coaches are looking for in point guards. He is starting to create a buzz for himself. A lot of Mid-major schools are starting to take a look at him. He has interest from Idaho State, Portland State and a few more.”
In order for Canyon Springs to make a Deep Run in the playoffs. Kevin will need to be the vocal leader of a team that will depend on him.
