SEMO Player of the Year Candidates
Southeast Missouri has always been a basketball hotbed with a lot of talented players at all levels. Here is a look at some possible Player of the Year candidates from the SEMO area:
Fred Thatch 6’4″ Sikeston ’18: The Saint Louis U. signee is back for his fourth year as a starter. As a junior, Thatch averaged 25.1 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and three steals in leading the Bulldogs to a berth in the Class 4 state quarterfinals. He is already the school’s career leading scorer.
Armani Vermillilon 6’0″ Advance ’18: The talented guard emerged as a top scoring threat last season in leading Advance to the Class 1 state championship game. As a junior, Vermillion averaged 20 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.4 steals.
Mardareyon Clark 6’4″ Charleston ’18: One of the most improved players in the state in 2017, Clark averaged 19.9 points and nine rebounds in leading the Bluejays to a Class 3 district championship in 2017.
Marcedes Leech 6’5″ Poplar Bluff ’19: The multi-talented shooting guard was injured for much of his sophomore season, but he averaged nearly 20 points, three rebounds and four steals last season in leading Bluff to a berth in the district finals.
Pete Lake 6’7″ Jackson ’18: On a team full of talent and good balance, Lake averaged 12 points a game in leading the Indians to a berth in the Class 5 state quarterfinals. Teammate Gavin Harris is a talented guard who has displayed the ability to make clutch baskets in big-game situations.
Dawson Dohogne 6’4″ Cape Notre Dame ’18: One of the top low post players in the region, Dohogne averaged 14 points and 6.1 rebounds in leading Notre Dame to a 21-7 record last season.
Dominique Hardimon 6’3″ Poplar Bluff ’19: A strong, physical combo forward, Hardimon avraged 18 points and eight rebounds a game after making the smooth transition from Class 2 South Pemiscot to Class 5 Poplar Bluff.
Trent McBride 6’6″ Eminence ’19: The versatile big averaged 16 points and nine rebounds in leading Eminence to a berth in the Class 1 state quarterfinals. He leads a large returning cast of players that should contend for the Class 1 state championship.
