Scouting Report: OKC Storm
Prep Hoops Oklahoma got a great look at the OKC Storm this past weekend at the Elite 14 Showcase in Texas. They are back this year ready to make a big splash in Oklahoma. The Storm is coming off yet another homeschool National Championship. Get the scoop on their team this year.
High’s
-The senior leadership of Nate Pendarvis and Trez Hankins was huge on Saturday.
-Pendarvis ability to create at the Point Guard position.
-Hankins was unstoppable shooting the three-point shot. He has learned how to move without the ball extremely well popping out off of screens for open looks and making defenses pay with his great three-point stroke.
–Josh Major has taken that next step improving his mid-range game. He will be keyed upon this year to give the Storm big minutes in the paint.
Low’s
-They played sloppy with the ball at times.
-Lack of aggression from the players not named Pendarvis, Hankins, or Major.
-Relied on the three-point shot too much.
-Took bad shots at times.
What to keep an eye on moving forward?
Going into the Elite 14 I wanted to see what young players would step up and be that next upcoming prospect from the OKC Storm’s program to take the next step. There are a few potential players who could take this role. I point toward Andrew Lewis being the next good prospect to come out of the Storm program. He is a long lanky Wing with a ton of upside to his game. He plays defense really well. It is clear when you watch Lewis that he takes pride and might even put more effort on the defensive end compared to the offensive side of the ball. Lewis has a little ways to come on the offensive side of the ball. Although, he has a good jumper and can drive effectively to the basket Lewis was a shy to take a ton of shots on Saturday. As he gets more comfortable with the OKC Storm look for the role of Lewis to grow.
I will be keeping a close eye on the development of Lewis with the Storm. They have a talented group that faired well this past weekend even without their best player, Luke Major. Major was out with a hurt ankle but is expected to return by the start of the season.
