Scouting Report: Delphi vs. Covington
In the first game of their annual four team tournament, the hosts started off the day against Delphi. Covington pulled away in the second half to win 67-51 and advance to the championship game tonight against the winner of Cascade and Southmont Here are complete stats of the game: Delphi vs. Covington
Covington
Spencer Pettit | 2018 | 6’5 F
Pettit has all the makings of a player than can play at the next level. A really good small school prospect that will need a little work once he gets to college. He needs to fill out a big and get stronger to compete at that level. But, he can score the ball. Finished with 22 points and scored at all three levels.
Ty Bever | 2019 | 5’11 PG
Bever has been one of my favorite point guards for a long time. He is stronger than he looks and he is one of the best passers in the state. Bever’s court vision is elite and he has no problem giving up the ball. That may be one of his faults though because he has the handles to get into the lane and score but is just so passive. He ended with seven points and 10 assists. I want him to be a bit more aggressive when driving but if he keeps dishing out assists I am fine with it.
Colton Brown | 2020 | 5’10 SG
You can tell Brown is a shooter. It’s not very often a coach says to pull up from the volleyball line. Delphi shut him down pretty well in this game only holding him to one three-pointer. He still had nine points though as he was able to get to the rim a couple of times. He’s a small kid but will only get bigger with time.
Delphi
Cade Murray | 2018 | 6’5 SF
Murray was really impressive to me in this one. He’s a long and lanky forward with a good stoke from distance. He made four three-pointers and had three steals as well. He’s good in the zone and he’s quick enough and big enough to guard perimeter players in man. Interesting guy that looks like he took a leap forward from last year.
Blake Carroll | 2019 | 6’2 F
Carroll is a very strong inside player and without height he has to be. Carroll is a glue guy he’ll score a bit and he’ll rebound a bit. Carroll brings solid play and doesn’t really make bad mistakes. Carroll knows where to be and how to get open as well. He’s a good high school player and might be able to stick at a small school if he expands his range.
Garrett Tomson | 2019 | 6’ G
Tomson was a guy who I wasn’t sure of coming in but now I really like him. He’s a good guy to have on your team because he crashes the boards so hard. Tomson is only a junior and I would like him to get better with his decisions as he had a few bad turnovers but overall he’s a guy that will get you 8-12 points a night.
