Recruiting Report: Tyl Woelber (2018)
Who is one of the top all around athletes in Southern Minnesota? That would be Tyl Woelber from Pipestone Area who is also a standout hooper.
A year ago Woelber scored around 18 a game for his team and then played with the Southwest Minnesota Stars.
“I played with the SW MN Stars AAU program and it was very fun and helped me as a player a lot,” Tyl told Prep Hoops. “I also played basketball in my schools gym with all my friends some nights and shot by myself other nights.
“The AAU program helped me develop new skills and moves I can apply to my game. My junior year was a lot of fun. We had a good time as a team and did some good things but we have a solid team this year so we are hoping for great things.”
The 6-foot-2 Woelber returns along with many others from a 15 win Pipestone club. Tyl wants to be a more versatile player this winter.
“We have a strong senior group coming back that will give our team a good boost, but we have a very talented junior group that has depth and positive attitude,” Woelber explained.
“We are expecting big things and it would be a disappointing if we didn’t make a state run. During the off-season I have been focusing on improving my ball handling and passing and outside shooting. Also using my right hand.”
In addition to doing the skilled things Woelber wants to create and board for his team.
“I hope to be a catalyst and facilitator for my team. And my goal is to average a double-double. As for our team we are hoping for big things and to make a run in the state tournament.”
Section 3AA is wide open and Pipestone Area is a team that can make a push. They will have to go through squads like Fairmont, Redwood Valley, New London-Spicer, and Morris Area who are also bringing several talented players back.
As far as the Tyl Woelber future the sky is the limit. This is a young man that is an outstanding football player and a big time track athlete.
“I talked to the University of Minnesota for track and the University of Augustana for track and football,” Tyl explained. “I’ve also talked to Southwest Minnesota State for football. Most of all the others are for track.”
