Recruiting Report: PJ Edwards (2020)
Springfield Lanphier 6’3” 2020 guard PJ Edwards has good strength and athleticism at the guard spot. He pushes it in transition and gets to the rim. Best when he can get a head of steam behind him and take it at the hoop. Gets to the hoop and finishes through contact. Drive and kick ability. Rebounds well from the two guard position on both ends of the floor. Should have a big year at Lanphier and it wouldn’t shock us if by mid-season he became their best player. D1 prospect for sure!
He previewed his upcoming season with Lanphier.
“We are going to be a tough team to beat. We plan to make a trip back downstate. We lost some good players, but we will have a good team.”
With the graduation of two great guards he will have to step up.
“It is going to be tough replacing Yak (Rose) and Aundrae (Williams) at the point guard position, but I think our they prepared me and groomed me all summer.”
Edwards made noise on the camp circuit this fall.
“The PrepHoops camp was really good. Doing the Pangos camp in Texas I made noise because they didn’t know me.”
What is going on with recruiting?
“I picked up an offer from SIU. Bradley, NIU, Iowa, and Northwestern are showing interest.”
SIU was the first school to offer the talented central Illinois guard.
“It was a surreal feeling. I like the campus. The visit was awesome. Coach Hinson and Coach Clancy did a nice job welcoming me to the campus and welcoming me to the team.”
