Recruiting Report: Nate Soto (2018)
Six-foot-4 Fridley versatile senior Nate Soto averaged nine and nine a year ago and Soto – a football prospect – is expecting to have a big senior season.
“Nate is an all-around player who plays bigger than his size,” Fridley Coach Jim McDonald said. “He is a tremendous leaper and his best position right now is point forward.”
The Tigers were a competitive .500 team a year ago and should be at least that again with Soto, Evan Nelsen, and Jerome Cunningham coming back.
“This year we got great returning players with a lot of talent and the team should be good for the upcoming season and I think with this team we could get further and win the section title,” Nate explained. “My junior year was good personally but could of done better as a team.”
Soto played a key role a year ago rebounding and doing all the active work for his team. He will do that again this year but he’s also going to do more with the ball in his hands.
“I’ve been focusing more on being more of a all-around player to help contribute to the team,” Nate said. “I was more of a rebound and outlet kind of player but I want to be a duel threat with being able to attack and shoot the ball and still have good defense.”
Soto’s senior year align perfectly with the type of competitor he is.
“My individual goal is to be better than last year with being a team leader and a team player,” Nate said. “Stats don’t really matter to me, I just want to win and get further than the following year which is one of my team goals and that is to win sections.”
A pair of schools are after Nate for football.
“For football I was planning on visiting South Dakota State and Wisconsin-River Falls,” Soto stated.
Soto played safety and wideout for the Fridley football team helping them to state. Nate had five interceptions and 33 tackles this year as well as caught 43 balls for 16 scores and 971 years offensively. Soto also returned three kicks for scores (a 36 yard return average) and one punt for a touchdown.
