Recruiting Report: Kaden Vaughn (2018)
St. Charles guard Kaden Vaughn led his team in scoring at 17 a game last winter shooting 45 percent from the floor and he made more threes than any player in the state.
Kaden shot 42 percent at the arc and 72 percent at the foul line. The Saints went 22-7 a year ago and bring back most of their key pieces from that team. Vaughn was excited to play 17U ball this past season but an injury hampered the games he played.
“I broke my index finger in the third tournament of AAU, and needed surgery,” Kaden told NHR. “That was tough, I was out for three months and when I returned I got in the gym as much as possible
“I played in the last couple summer tournaments with St. Charles and played in two fall leagues. I was always trying to get in the gym to try and makeup the time that I missed.”
Vaughn also gave his team a couple steals, a couple assists, and three boards a game.
“I would say my junior year went pretty good. I ended up leading the state with most threes in the season (122), beat two school records, most threes in a game and career threes,” Kaden said.
“My focus preparing for this year has mostly been on my ability to drive. Last year teams would only have to guard my three point shot, so this off season I’ve been lifting working on driving, finishing, and as well as shooting.“
Vaughn has goals for himself after a historic season as a junior but the team making a state push is the biggest goal.
“We have a lot of talent coming back this year,” Kaden said. “We have four out of our five starters back from last year. As a team I believe we have a chance to do big things. And hopefully make it to state.
“My individual goals are to be a good leader for the team, and also role model. Team goals I would say are work hard, never quit, and one goal most teams probably have, make it to state.”
The division three level is definitely interested in Kaden’s ability to score the ball.
“I have been in contact with a few colleges.,” Vaughn said. “Bethany Lutheran, Northland, Luther, and a few more. I have visited Bethany Lutheran, Luther, and Central College.”
