Recruiting Report: Josh Hall (2019)
Playing at Oak Hill Academy is a privilege many high school basketball players never get to have, but what many don’t understand is that there’s more to Oak Hill than just the team you see on TV. Oak Hill’s varsity or “Red” team has seen some success over the past couple of seasons, and while they don’t have the big name players like their national team has, they still have some hoopers to keep an eye on.
The one that blew up last summer was 6’6” junior Josh Hall. He didn’t play for a major shoe company team (he played for the Durham Hurricanes ), but the North Carolina native showed that he’s not only grown and improved, but he’s also filled out and that has turned him into a legitimate division one prospect.
“My sophomore year at Oak Hill I had to focus on getting bigger and putting more weight on, and I did that so I think it helped my game out a lot this summer,” Hall said.
Hall already olds offers from Kennesaw State, Rider, Hampton and Buffalo and is seeing interest from A10 and ACC schools. Despite not playing on the national team this year, Hall is continuing to develop while getting the opportunity to play with the ball in his hands and be the go-to guy for the Oak Hill Red team which should help him a lot moving forward.
“I know I have to continue to get stronger and work on handling the basketball more to become a true wing,” he said. “I already pass and shoot the ball pretty well for my size so it’s just continuing to improve in those areas.”
As for why coaches should recruit him, it all has to do with energy, leadership and potential moving forward.
“I give it 110% every single time I play, and I encourage my teammates to do better and I try to make them better every day.”
It wouldn’t surprise me to see Hall work his way to the national team next year, depending on who Oak Hill ends up bringing in moving forward. Regardless, there’s a lot to be said about a kid who is 6’6″, can shoot and handle the ball and is growing every day. He should be a guy who’s on the radar for just about every mid major program in the country, and with added weight and skill could see his stock go up even more than that by this time next year.
