With plans to go on a mission after high school, Jared Bagley’s recruitment is a bit unclear right now, but one thing is for sure: the 6-foot-1 guard is certainly a college prospect.
After leading Logan in scoring last season as a junior, he heads into his senior season as Utah’s 17th-ranked 2018. There have been some schools, D3 and JuCo, that have taken notice.
“I want to play in college. Right after high school, I’m going to go on a mission, though. But I’ve talked to a couple small schools,” said Bagley.
“I’ve talked to Skagit Valley, and then I talked to George Fox, and then a coach from Hartnell text me. They just wanted to know what my plans were right after high school, and what I was thinking and if I was interested.”
If and when Bagley does end up with a college program, it’ll be getting a versatile playmaker, who can flat-out score.
“I think the biggest thing is that I’m an all-around player. But I really like to attack, and I really like the mid-range game, that’s definitely my go-to shot,” said Bagley. “I can play the point guard or the two, and I like to be aggressive and defend.”
This past spring and summer, Bagley improved while playing with Cache Valley Elite 17U, preparing himself for what could be a big-time senior season.
He reflected on his time spent with the grassroots program.
“It was good with them, I played a lot of the two and one. It was fun, we had a good team, had some good players and traveled all around,” said Bagley. “I think the biggest thing is that I increased my confidence, and playing against all those good players gave me a chance to get better.”
After leading Logan in scoring last season as a junior, he’s ready to take thee reins again this season with a team that could be one of Utah’s best.
“It’s good because we only lost one senior. And a big thing this year is I’ll need to provide a lot more leadership, and just showing the younger guys the standard,” said Bagley. “ And I’ll just need to always be at my best mentally and physically, and that will help me play my best game.”
