Recruiting Report: DJ Fleming (2018)
Woodbury guard DJ Fleming had an excellent summer playing with Rip City and training in a way that was best for him. The result? A big excitement for his senior year.
‘This off-season I played for an organization called Rip-City, a team my trainers coached,” Fleming said. “I chose to play with this team to get ready and train all summer for my senior year and I think it really helped.
“I also played in a lot of summer tournaments with my high school team after AAU was over and played really well in those. My main focus this off-season was shooting and creating a shot for myself, I worked all summer on picking spots on the floor I’m comfortable shooting from and using moves to get to those spots.”
A year ago Fleming gave Woodbury five points a game playing a ball handling role and also scoring in space when he got a chance.
“My junior year was a learning and growing experience for me but I believe it has made me a better person and player,” DJ said. “I plan to showcase everything I worked on this summer in my senior season.”
Fleming returns to the Woodbury line-up along with All State level player Michael Jones, Nebraska signed football player but basketball post David Alston, wing Ryan Christensen, and CDH transfer Ray’Sean Treadwell. These five are seniors with big plans for the year.
“I think our team has a lot of talent and athleticism this year,” Fleming said. “We are starting five seniors, which is good for experience and we have a couple younger guys coming off the bench. I think we expect to have a big year.”
The Royals start the year as a top ten team and their goal is another SEC title and getting to state.
“My individual goals for this winter are being a true leader and making my teammates better on and off the court,” Fleming said. “Also, doing whatever it takes to get the W on any night.
“Some of our team goals are winning conference champs for the third year in a row and winning section champs.”
Fleming is a good enough basketball player to play in college at some level. Where is unknown at this point as he wants to handle the ball for the Royals and have a big season but there will be opportunity.
“Currently I’m in the process of finding a school where I can continue my basketball school and have no planned visits at the moment. I’m very focused on me senior year.”
