Recruiting Report: Darius Hines (2018)
Scan the list of available point guards in the DMV region, and you can argue that Darius Hines is the best of the bunch. Bishop Ireton’s floor general is a true point guard in every sense, and his resume speaks for itself. In what many consider to be the most competitive high school basketball league in the country, Hines has seen his numbers improve each year. This year, we can expect more of the same. Hines will be the heart and soul of Cardinals Head Coach Neil Berkman’s team this season.

“We’re real young this season. I’m the only senior, so I I gotta be a role model and teach the younger players how to play,” Hines explained. “Get stronger, better. Understand its not middle school ball anymore. It’s high school. You playing against soon to be grown men. You gotta learn how to get to your spots, get your shot off, play defense, and be mentally strong.”
Catawba, LIU Post, Concordia, and Lincoln are among the division two programs who have offered and are actively recruiting Hines. Liberty has reportedly reached out and expressed interest in Hines.
“I’ll probably wait until spring signing,” said Hines, a 3.0 student, of his decision timetable. “If I get something during the season that I like I’ll probably commit there.”
What type of school is Hines considering?
“Right now somewhere big. Somewhere that has my major. I’m trying to major in either physical therapy or engineering,” he stated. “So I really don’t know what I wanna do. Somewhere big that I know I can fit and that I can play there.”
No matter where he ends up, there is little doubt that Hines will contribute. Stay tuned as we plan to follow his recruitment, and provide updates throughout the season.
